Gerber E-Z Out Folding Knife

The Gerber E-Z Out is an easy opening folding knife with a partially serrated blade for getting cuts started fast.  It is particularly good for cutting rope or seat belt material so think of a serrated blade if you ever have to cut such things as it really cuts through it in a hurry.

The E-Z Out opens with either hand; the blade has an elongated hole in it that will work the same for either hand.  You just stick the side of your thumb tip up in the hole and flip the knife open. It's pretty easy with a little practice.  This eliminates the little studs most knife makers leave protruding from the side of their blades for the one hand opening feature.

The blade is stainless steel and is about 3 1/2" long with a large pivot holding it into the fiberglas handle.  The knife appears very durable and has a pair of hard rubber inserts in the handle to give you a good grip if the knife should get wet or slippery.  There is a lock that holds the blade open accessible by pressing against the back spring of the knife.  This releases the lock and allows the blade to be folded back into the handle. The idea behind this is to keep the blade from closing on your hand when using it.  I have had a blade close before a few times and it is not a pleasant occurrence.  This lock prevents that.

The knife comes very sharp with about half of the blade serrated to make it easy to start the cut.  The knife has a pocket clip on the side of the handle that can be removed or moved over to the other side depending on which side you carry it on.

The Gerber E-Z Out is a very good pocket knife that I recommend for people who need a knife that will stand up under reasonable use.

I probably wasn't even allowed to have scissors when I was little. I may be the reason they had to come up with the child-safety scissors ;+)

Oh, you must be one of the ones they made the scissors with the rounded tips for, too - remember, like we had in elementary school. ;>

Remember my review on the Butternut Squash soup? I am an accident waiting to happen; especially if the word knife is involved in my endeavors. I feel the safest when using a paring knife ;+)

Sounds like something I would injure myself with. Ouch!

Great review. I like the idea of a knife that's easier to open.

I think you are right. Also police officers and emergency crew can use a knife like this to rescue people caught up in a bunch of belts. ;>

Yep, well it's over 3" long so it would have to be a BIG pocket for it to open, plus it is held pretty firmly closed by the back spring. ;>

I bet hunters could get a lot of use out of this. I also think this might be a good thing to have in the glove compartment of a car! How ya doing, George?

As long as it doesn't open up in your pocket! LOL
