Do you know that you have tear ducts not only at the lower, inner corner of the eye, but also about halfway up the upper lid, above the better-known tear duct? Well, I didn't know it was there until my eye doctor worked me in last-minute for a problem I was experiencing. I was sure I had a grain of sand trapped in both eyes - I live at the beach so it seemed to make sense. After a few days of struggling with the nasty pain of having my eyeballs continually scratched and eye drops not helping, I learned that I had chronic dry eye, and I was being injured by my own tear ducts!
They say that if you work at a computer all day, you need to make yourself blink - something about the activity seems to bring on almost a staring behavior.
Well, if you have dry eyes AND you work at a computer all day AND come home to practice an instrument or read or participate in any hobby that requires close work, you know how miserable your dry eyes can make you. Honestly, there have been days when I couldn't wait to go to sleep just to be free of the dry, burning sensation.
My eye doctor has given me numerous over-the-counter samples and I've bought many traditional and herbal drops. I had plugs placed in my tear ducts. I even tried Restasis, but it made my eyes fire red and burned worse with each use.
In yet another desperate attempt for relief a few weeks ago, I ran into the drug store to scour the eye care section. I was determined to grab whatever I could find that seemed suitable for severe dryness. I wasn't too hopeful for a great deal of relief, but something that "sort of" worked would be better than nothing.
I don't know if GenTeal Lubricant Eye Gel for Severe Dry Eye Relief is a new product or not, but I don't remember seeing it on previous visits to that section of the store. I grabbed it, paid my $12 and headed home as quickly as I could.
The package indicates that it is sterile even though it's in a multi-use tube, but the preservative safely dissolves once it reaches your eye. This is to avoid the initial stinging caused by many eye products. It says to use 1 or 2 drops as needed, but it coats the eye with a very fine, clear film that makes it last longer than typical lubricant drops.
As a gel/ointment, the drop just sits on your eye until you blink. And being thick, it takes a while before your eyes can distribute and absorb it. Don't try to use this if you need to do something within the next 5-10 minutes, as you will have very blurry vision for a while. But when it clears, you will know it was worth the brief inconvenience.
After using this for almost 2 weeks, I forgot to use the GenTeal Lubricant Eye Gel one morning. Having the immediate comparison under routine circumstance at work, I quickly realized that the gel really was making a difference. There have been days when I needed a 2nd dose in the evening, but for the most part, I do pretty well with just a morning application.
I'm sold on this product. It helped when nothing else could touch my dry eyes. If you are like me and can't find relief for your dry eyes, definitely give it a try. GenTeal Lubricant Eye Gel for Severe Dry Eye Relief does work as it claims!
