Being gastrointestinally-challenged from time to time, I know how important fiber is to my daily diet. I tend to get most of my fiber from foods like cereal, beans, and broccoli. Let's face it, however; it's very difficult to get all of the daily fiber that nutritionists recommend. Any product that can help with fiber intake and taste good is a product worth trying.
Fiber One Chewy Bars provide 35% of daily fiber, calcium, whole grains, and no trans fat. More important, the bars are scrumptious, so I have no more excuses for not getting enough fiber. The texture is delightfully chewy with a combination of flavors to enchant your taste buds. The flavor is slightly buttery with a rich, satisfying, not-too-sweet taste. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I would be more likely to choose a Fiber One bar over a chocolate candy bar. I'm not big on sweets and I love oats, so this bar fits the bill easily.
The Oats and Peanut Butter bars each contain 150 calories with 4.5 grams of fat, 9 grams of sugars (including high fructose syrup) and 9 grams of fiber. It's the high amount of fiber that caused me problems for the rest of the day.
Suffice to say; whether you are getting fiber from a bowl of bland beans or from a tasty fiber bar, your gastrointestinal system is going to respond the same. It is an inescapable fact that digestive gases will escape at some point during the day. Seriously.
Overall, I think the Fiber One Chewy Bars are a keeper. They are a great source of dietary fiber, which helps satisfy appetite, manage weight, and promote healthy digestion. Just be aware that there are, um, side effects to a high fiber diet. Better have some Beano on hand! ;-)
