Geico sure got it right with that gecko campaign. That gecko probably ranks up close to Santa Claus as far as recognition. I give credit where credit is due. Stroke of genius - that gecko.
I went with USAA for many years for car insurance and was always happy with them, but I thought maybe I could save a buck or two. Geico sounds like a great low cost alternative.
I called. No problems other than they could not cover my Harley. Bummer. They farmed that out to Progressive I think. Now I see on commercials that they cover motorcycles. I guess they listened when they called and asked why I switched and I said I wanted someone to cover my bike too. I smile when I see that commercial and wonder how much my input impacted. OK. Probably not much. Still interesting that they added bikes.
The bike was one of my concerns, but I made the switch when my kid turned 15 and was going on my policy. The quote on a 16 year old male looked high. State Farm had randomly called about this time, so I compared. They brought it in lower for the vehicles, but those few months with State Farm were a nightmare. Seriously. They were not a good neighbor.
Around about this time, my Dad rear-ended a tractor trailer and died. He was with USAA, and they could not have been better. Really top notch. State Farm was a mess, and I went back with USAA where the overall cost was lower with the bundle brought over from State Farm. Watch that. They might give you a great deal with one thing but jack it up on another. State Farm got me on the house insurance.
USAA requires a military connection of some type. My Dad had been military as is the boys' Dad. So, that's not an option for everyone.
If I had not had the option of USAA (one of the top rated companies all round), I would have probably gone back with Geico. They did not cover motorcycles at the time I was with them, but they do now. They were kind of high with new drivers. That's always high. I can understand that really.
There were never any problems with Geico. We don't have any tickets and no accidents lately (like many years). Knock on wood. They had us covered on auto payment and no issues with that unlike State Farm who messed the heck up out of it and had me hanging with a teen not covered after I called to add him. They missed it, and he drove six months uninsured. Thank goodness he did not have an accident.
I'd be fine with Geico though the prices can vary depending on what is covered. They were a little higher with a teen male driver. But, they got things right which means more than a few dollars saved.
I doubt I'll ever switch companies again away from USAA, since they were excellent with a real major emergency. I can't compare Geico there, but I don't think USAA could be beat. If I did not qualify for USAA, I would probably go with Geico. They were much better than State Farm and another smaller company that I used for the first year on the motorcycle. While other companies did some odd things and dropped the ball, Geico was always on target if not real personal due to the size.
