I've have been on several prescription antacids without success. My doctor recommended that I try Gaviscon. I use it after a heavy meal and at bedtime. It has worked better than anything I have tried in the past. I recommend giving it a try, to see if it works for you.

Several years ago I was diagnosed with GERD, more commonly known as acid reflux. My doctor gave me prescription Aciphex, which worked well, but my insurance decided it was too expensive and wanted me to start taking Prilosec, which didn't work as well. I ended up using over the counter remedies, and Gaviscon Extra Strength has turned out to be the best of the best. Some of the digestion medications are peppermint or wintergreen flavored, and while that sounds appealing, minty flavors actually make my GERD worse. Gaviscon Extra Strength comes in a cherry flavor that actually tastes fairly good. The active ingredients are 160 mg aluminum hydroxide and 105 mg magnesium carbonate, both of which are antacids. You can chew 2 to 4 tablets four times a day, but I never take 4 at a time, just two. It works and it works fast. It's not too chalky tasting, and since the these are in tablet form, I can put some in my purse and take them with me. I developed heartburn when I was pregnant.  I tried Tums and rolaids and they only helped a little and did not help for very long therefore I needed them every half an hour.  I asked my midwife if there was anything else I could do because as it was I slept in the recliner some nights because it hurt so bad.  She recommended trying Gaviscon chewables instead.  She warned that they do not taste very good but work better and for longer so I gave them a try.  Well first off they do not go down as easy as Tums or Rolaids (they are chalkier and bigger tablets) but they work really well once you get them down.  They practically eliminated all the burning and nausea and worked for hours.  Thats right, hours so I could actually lay flat and get some sleep.  I swear by them now.  As I get older and put on some weight and get occasional heartburn and still us Gaviscon.  The cherry ones are the best tasting of their products.  Give them a try...

In the middle of the night.....indigestion...burning....discomfort....can't sleep.  Reach for the Gaviscon. One trip to the bathroom....pop one tablet....chew, chew, chew...until your mouth is full of smooth cherry flavored foam with no little chips of the tablet remaining. Chase with a drink of water. By the time you lie down again, the discomfort is gone and you will be able to sleep for the rest of the night. No need to re-dose.   The instant relief for heartburn distress. :-)

I prefer Gaviscon over Tums anyday because the releif comes much faster! The tablets are not too chalky becuase they have a little fizz to them, I only need to take one or two which is way less than what i would take of other brands

Hmm, well I do enjoy this product very much so. It works a lot but I still unfortunately would like to have tums rather than this. It does however, come in handy when I'm trying to sleep and heartburn comes over me as if it were a shadow of a cloud. I sincerely love this product and very happy it has helped me bend my illness in half. It's a wonderful idea and I'm sure it will sell many more tablets copies, or what ever the hell you call them now. I have enjoyed using this product for a few months and will always regard it as very intelligent. Thank god for this product or I would have been suffering so many sleepless nights causing me to be late for work etcetera etcetera. To be honest I'm just doing this for some "cash" on the internet. I do however, enjoy this product for it helps me with my acid reflux which I've been cursed to deal with for about 20 years now. To the manufacturer of this product I thank you, and hope you do well on future sales.      - Myself.

Forget Tums, Rolaids and all those other brands that offer a low price but rarely work....at least they don't for me!  I suffer from heartburn and even acid reflux at times but with Gaviscon, I can take one and the problem is gone!  I don't have to chew a whole bottle like with some brands.  It does, of course, cost more but it's effective and actually has a pleasant taste and not chalkey.

My doctor recommended this product after I had made an appointment to talk about my constant heartburn and acid reflux. It was so bad that evertime I leaned down, like to tie my shoes, I would get stomach acid in my mouth. A couple times, I woke up in the middle of the night, choking on my own stomach acid. Yuck. So, he suggested this as an alternative. At the time, I was nursing my daughter, so I didn't want to take any prescription drugs, and I wanted something that would be safe. (Please consult your doctor before taking any drugs, prescription or over the counter, especially if you are nursing) (and, if you are nursing, give yourself a huge high five, you are awesome). We settled on Gaviscon, I was to take a couple after meals, and then 4 at bedtime. It worked! Right away! Apparently (this is how my doctor described it) the Gaviscon actually makes a foam layer in your stomach that prevents the acid from coming back up. I have been using this product for 4 years now. I love it! It has worked for me all this time, and I am not about to switch now! Pizza and spicy mexican here I come!

I Have tried alot of over the counter products for my "gerd" and this is the only one I turn to. It is not chalky like some tind to be.It always gets the job done and don't leave a naty after taste in your mouth.

I have suffer with Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) for most of my life.  Nothing as worked as well as Gaviscon Extra Strength chewable antacid tablets.  I have taken every expansive medicine on the market.   Who knew it was easy as this to get relief from GERD.  What makes the product so good is that most medication sink to the bottom of the stomach.  Therefore, there is no relief where it hurts most at the top of the stomach.  This medication floats making a barrier for the acid that escapes the stomach. The vanilla taste makes the tabs much more enjoyable than most other medication's of its type. I am so very happy with this product, and recommend it to all.  Thanks you for finally making something that helps a long-time suffer like myself.  You have to try it if you have GERD.
