Gatlinburg, TN Review Summary

Located in East Tennessee, Gatlinburg is a vacation destination situated near one of the entrances to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Gatlinburg offers great Appalachian Mountain scenery, is reasonably close to a large percentage of the United States’ population, and offers much to see and do for a low price. Reviewers have great things to say about this city, like “Beautiful Country, People, and Cabins. Lots to do and See” and “Gatlinburg, TN is Among the Most Relaxing and Fun Places to Visit”. There are some frustrations with parking in the heart of Gatlinburg, but other than that, the feelings are positive and Gatlinburg ranks as one of the favorite Vacation Destinations in the eastern United States.

The first time I visited Gatlinburg, TN I was 16 years old and vacationing with a friend's family. We had so much fun going to Ober Gatlinburg on the ski lift, visiting Dixie Stampede and taking a helicopter tour I was thrilled when we bought a vacation home 1 1/2 hours north in Limestone, TN. Our first visit to the house we rounded up our friends that live near there and took a day trip.

Needless to say the place had changed in 12 years but my favorites where still there. We hit Ober Gatlinburg again and walked the main strip visiting all the shops and looking at all of the old time picture galleries....

With the addition of the new indoor water park, this property is difficult to get into.  But possible if you know an owner.  Since we own, your as good as in.  Here are the details:

The Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort and Spa title says it all.  There is plenty of shopping, good eats, beautiful mountain backdrop and parks.  Casino on an Indian reservation- with great food I'm told, Dollywood, arts and craft shows and more.  The children LOVE it.

We have been unable to go for the last few years do to illness and more recently - lack of funds(we live in Michigan -the highest unemployment rate...

We spent the last week in July of 2007 in a wonderful cabin in the Great Smokey Mountains.  It was an extended family vacation for a group of 14.  We were able to stay in a luxurious cabin for just under $3000 for the week.  There were eight master suites with master baths, an indoor pool on the bottom floor with a workout room, a large kitchen suitable for serving large families, balconies off each bedroom, flat screen tvs througout, a floor that was a movie theater, and a floor that had a pool table, air hockey, darts, and an arcade style game.  The washer and dryer in the cabin also made... review »

My family, which is my husband and 2 children, love to travel to Gatlinburg, TN. We have a great time there. There is so much to do: taking sky lift to the top of the mountain for wonderful sight seeing, great shopping, wonderful food, great fishing, gem hunting, and many more fun things to do. We just love Gatlinburg because you have all of these wonderful things to do but you can do them at your on pace so it is very relaxing. If you haven't been it is definitely worth of your while in taking a look at it.

We used to go to Gatlinburg, Tennessee every few years when I was growing up. I haven't been there in many years until we went this spring. It was still the same place I remember, very relaxing and could be really romantic if you want it to be.  There's lots to do and see for families too.

Great scenery with all of the mountains. It's a lot more "touristy" now than it was the last time I was there, but still a lot of fun. They have a huge Ripley's Believe It Or Not aquarium that is a must see too! We stayed in a hotel at the very top of one of the mountains that was wonderful - I think it...

I have to agree with all the other reviews that Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is really an excellent place to travel with your family year around.

Our family has gone to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tenn for the past 5 years in a row. The last 3 years we have gone on Thanksgiving week, which can be chaotic but it is so nice to see that part of the country during the Fesitval of Lights. We go there that week mostly to get pumped about the impending Chirstmas Holidays. It puts us in the Spirit and love being there during it's first snow stage. Plus, the Christmas Place alone is a picture taking oportunity...

We spent spring break in a rented cabin on a huge hill. We were able to cook our own meals and go to the Smokey Mt. National Park for free and go on hikes to waterfalls and other scenic areas. We saw the highest pt in the smokies and drove up into the mts for some amazing sites. We also played in town at the Nascar arcade and car funland. The kids loved it. There are a lot of shows, museums, and shops to go. Great restaurants and even better hospitality! We have wanted to go back every year since then.
