It wasn't very long ago that if you wanted a laptop, you were looking at making a sizable investment.  The idea that you could buy a sub-$1,000, let alone a sub-$500 laptop seemed absurd.  And, if you could find one, what a puny, sorry little thing it would turn out to be.

Well times have certainly...

Not impressed with this laptop AT ALL.  Very expensive, lower quality, not as fast as it should be, doesn't come equipped with standard windows.  Still had to buy so many programs on top of the original expensive price.  Don't recommend it.

I think you will be quite pleased with this product. I bought mine a few weeks ago and am on it constantly. It seems to have a very good battery life and it hasn't given me any problems. It is a bit slow if you are multi-tasking. However, the wireless internet connection locator is crazy. It finds a network even if there is not a network to be found! (well, not exactly, but ya know)

This is a good laptop! Buuuy it!

when looking for a new computer my husband and I searched everywhere for a new laptop. I had previously owned a HP desktop and hated it.

In the Fall of 2006 I started back to college after my kids were older and I felt I was ready.

It was a 14.1 Emachines N10, that I decided to buy at walmart for only $500. For a year, I loved it, but I decided I needed a bigger hard drive and screen, so the search began.

I bought this laptop, the Gateway MT6840 at Best Buy and as luck would have it my laptop was online at a lower price than in the store, Online was $499. and in the store it was I think $599....

My husband bought this computer about 2 years ago.  I first he carried it around with him everywhere and then about a year ago he gave it to me for my work.  Sometimes if the screen is on for too long, it starts freaking out and changing colors.  Also for a while everytime we turned it off, we would have to blow on the battery to get it to lock into place and turn back on.  I don't know if my husband was really hard on it at first or if we got a lemon.  I love the widescreen though when everything is working right! All the extras are really great too, like the DVD burner and drive for my card... read full review »

The Gateway laptop is a great computer for the money.  The wide screen makes viewing easy.   The wider computer allows the keyboard more finger room.  It is like typing on a regular keyboard.  I am a transcriptionist and typing is my livelihood.  I have never been able to use other smaller laptaps due to the keyboard.  The Gateway is a good laptop for someone that types a lot.

This is the first laptop I ever bought by myself for myself and it is well-worth every penny I worked and spent for it!

It's a bit heavy at 6.4 lbs especially when travelling to different countries and quite big with its 15.4" monitor but I don't mind. I specifically bought it with watching DVD's in mind and I enjoy it. I do most of my exercise DVD's with it in my room so I don't have to fight with anyone over the TV set.

I'm also a writer and editor so its speed (2.0 GHz) and capacity (2048 MB RAM and 160 GB HD) are very handy. I get to download the stuff I need and the research I make on the...

After five and a half years, my old HP laptop finally just quit working.  I should have seen it coming and set aside some money for a replacement but I didn't.  So when I went shopping for a new computer, cheap was most of what I was looking for.  I found a good deal on this Gateway at Office Depot.  It had dual core CPUs, 2 gigs of RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium, and a price of $699 after rebate.  I had previously had only one Gateway computer, a desktop, many years ago, at work.  It was OK in quality so I thought I take the chance on this laptop.  Well I can honestly say that this little,... read full review »

This is a nice computer and Vista has a lot of nice bells and whistles...if you want to regress to speeds slower that those that you may have experienced 4 ot 5 years ago.  (Actually my 4 year old Dell Optiplex desktop that I bought on ebay for a little over $100 runs circles around this computer in terms of performance.)  I added a flash drive to take avantage of Boost, but the incease in performance is imperceptable.  Speaking of imperceptable I contacted Gatway for advice/help on increasing the performance and their support is imperceptable.  The suggested options that would double the...

As someone who does a lot of traveling for business and heard that the Gateway laptop is very durable, I decided to buy this one. Sadly I have found it to be very slow, the screen glare can be hard on the eyes, and after 2 1/2 months the computer crashed right in the middle of working on a report. I called Gateway and they had me send it back to be fixed, telling me it would be of no cost and that I would have it back in a few days. Well it has been two weeks now and I still do not have my computer back. Upon  following up with them as to where it was they said it would be another week or so....

I purchased my Gateway laptop last year through the Home Shopping Network and was very cautious.  I watched the segment on this particular laptop for a couple of days, but basically knew nothing about computer hardware's capabilties.  Fully knowing that I had 30 days to try the product and using HSN's 5 flex-pay option, I cautiously placed the order and tracked the delivery online excitedly, which arrived promptly as advertised.  After receiving the package, I opened the box and was using the computer within a half hour.   I turned on the computer, followed the simple directions to hook up... read full review »

Having owned several laptops, this Gateway, byfar, is the cheapest piece of machinery I've had to date. The "b" key fell off after owning it for only 6 months; the keys are all erased where the letters are.  Luckily for me, I'm a typist so I know where the letters are located.  The screen glares and is all scratched up, freezes up and is slowwwwwwwwwwwwww. I have to do a system restore every other week to unfreeze my computer.  I can't wait to get my income tax refund to buy a new laptop and throw this one in the trash.

Just got this last week, to replace an outdated 5-year old Dell laptop.  So far, so great.  Love the 15.4 in screen with the ultrabright feature.  The keyboard is very ergonomic.  Got it with Windows VIsta, too, which came standard.  Only complaint would be that the 4 USB ports are all piled on top of one another on the right side of the laptop - a little tricky to plug everything in if you actually needed more than one port at a time.

I am not an expert on computers by any means, however I have been doing ON-Line school for the past three years, and I am on a computer daily. I bought this laptop about 6 months ago, and I am very pleased with the ease to have 9 sites, open at once. I did dislike VIsta operating systems at first, but all computers now have that program, so what are we to do, but learn it... This is a wonderful laptop for highspeed internet conection, and for the price!

You can't deny the power of Intel processor and wonderful feature of the gateway laptop that was provided. The dual-core technology and power saver feature in the processor do give me a lot of funs, as i am owning this laptop at my house now. What a big big gift who bought me by my hubby.... My hubby upgrade the ram to 2GB and make the whole laptop more powerful and speedy with OS that was using... overall.. that's wonderful!
