Gateway M6750 Review

I purchased a Gateway laptop red M-6750 new from a Best Buy store in California in March 2008.  It worked fine until July 2009, when it was 4 months out of warranty.  The computer stopped booting up at that time, and I noticed a rattled when I picked up or moved the computer around (no, the computer had never been dropped or mis-treated in any way).  I returned the computer to the Best Buy store talked to a Geek Squad technician about the boot problem and the rattle - you could actually see somthing moving around inside one of the compartments on the back of the computer.  The technician then removed some of the covers on the back and proceeded to remove 5 loose 1 inch metal clips that were floating around inside the laptop.  He indicated this was a "known" problem with this model of Gateway computer, and that he had personally seen several of these units returned under warranty.  He suggested I contact Gateway to see what they could do. After fully explaining this issue to Gateway's service department, they absolutely refused to do anything about this problem.  I even went up the ladder to a supervisor with no avail.  I explained this was my 4th Gateway computer purchase, that I had been a very loyal Gateway customer, that according to Best Buy this was a "known" problem with this Gateway model, and that it unfortunately didn't surface until just after the warranty period.  Didn't matter - out of warranty - end of story.  Their factory could have filled the computer with nails and as long as the unit worked through the warranty period, they wouldn't care.   Needless to say, I will never buy another Gateway or Acer (the company that recently bought Gateway) computer.  I now have a faily new $700 Gateway laptop that's as useful as a paperweight.
