The Garmin eTrex Legend HCx is a great GPS to have if you're a geocacher, but at the same time looking for a great deal. It's cheaper than the other fancier GPSes out there, but has features that are a must-have if you geocache a lot.

One of the best features is the ability to download waypoints from...

This is a very good entry level GPS it is not the top of the line model that Garmin puts out but none the less is of good quality. My advice if you are going to use it to Geocache it should be fine.If it is going to be used for more serious navigating spend the extra money and but one of the better... review »

I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Garmin eTrex Legend HCx.  I upgraded from the Legend to this device.  It serves my purposes well for Geocaching every day (hopefully).  The battery life is great, I've had to replace batteries about once a month since purchase.  The ease in connectivity with my computer really has impressed me the most.  I would recommend this device for any geocacher, from novice to advanced.

The Garmin Legend HCx (not to be confused with other Legend models) is a (H) high sensitivity, (C) color display model, with (x) expandable memory. The expandable memory is through separately purchased micro SD cards, up to 2 Gigabyte. Although it does not have all the fancy features of the newer Colorado series, for half the price you get a device that is just as sensitive in terms of navagation and features needed for hiking. It can easily be used one handed. Some claim that it is designed for left handed people, others for right. Try one in a store to judge for yourself. The things you are... review »

I wanted to start geocaching but didn't have my own gps.  I borrowed my dad's from time to time, but I hated to bother him.  I found the etrex legend online.  It is the best price for what you get.

It has basic maps with interstates and main highways.  Easy to navigate menus. The battery life is up to 18 hours...more like 14 hours, which is still great.  If you are looking for a gps to go geocaching, this is a great one to start with.

I must say that it doesn't get great reception in valleys and near tall buildings, but i didn't pay $400 or more  for it.  I expected it not to be perfect. ...

When I first started Geocaching, I used my Tom Tom for navigation, but found that it is definately for in car use. I read the reviews on the Garvin E-Trex handheld GPS and was skeptical because of the low price, but it is a name that I have trusted, so I figured I would try it. This is the best little device! Not only can I find my way to specific coordinates, I can get back too! This is acurate within 5-10 feet and has never let me down. It is lightweight, small, and the batteries seem to last an unusually long time. This is perfect for those just starting out or the experienced user. I would... review »

Garmin - eTrex Legend Cx Handheld GPS Receiver&******* a GREAT GPS for beginners or even people who do some traveling and then go on the trails.  The program that comes with it is very basic but it will be enough to keep you from getting lost.  i have this and think it is just right for what i use it for (in the car and on the trails).

Got this as a birthday gift from my family.  What a great gift.  Use it all the time while hiking and hunting.  Would order the trail maps from somewhere else then gramin,  but was able to find them many other places at deep discounts. I wouldn't get lost without it!

I really like this GPS. Small, but not too small. Clear and concise directions get me where I want to go. The level of stress around driving has dropped dramatically. Now if everyone would get one and use it , it would be a better, at least safer world.

Well...if I were to go back in time I would definitely not get this gps. When you get down to 30 or so feet it jumps around A LOT (even with WAAS)...it's made for left-handed people (why?), and the default maps are extremely basic. So, once you pay the $100 for this device, you have to add on the cost of better maps. Also, it has a serial connection, so you have to buy a rare serial-to-usb adapter (not found at local Walmart stores...online, yes...also at Best Buy)...but I definitely would not recommend this device.
