This is a very good entry level GPS it is not the top of the line model that Garmin puts out but none the less is of good quality. My advice if you are going to use it to Geocache it should be fine.If it is going to be used for more serious navigating spend the extra money and but one of the better models from Garmin one with a color screen and a barometric altimeter and better compass. the better models also have better memory.

First this GPS has a color screen, that is what the C in HCx stands for, second, you are far better off with an inexpensive mechanical compass than the electronic compass in a GPS device. It is always calibrated, and it never runs out of batteries. If you are hiking in mountainous territory a altimeter may help, but you always get an altitude estimate with any GPS device, especially if you have contour maps loaded. - So think twice before you spend the extra bucks for a "better model". For what it does the Legend HCx is the equal of devices that cost twice the price.
