Ok, here's the deal...I purchased this unit after several days of research. I found that Garmin has good customer service as well as  great products. I know that this unit is marked as "discontinued" on the Garmin website but if you buy it now, it does come with the most up to date maps (2008 NT version). I've used it a bunch of times with no issues at all. The windshield mount has been great. I've read that some people have had the windshild mount fall off. I really don't think it's possible and here is why, If you stick the bracket on the windshild, it sticks really well but you have to flip... review »

I received the Garmin c340 this Christmas.  I am not the best person at having inate direction sense or reading a map.  This device guides me where i need to go.  ITgives me step by step instructions whil also listing the street name i am turning on.  The brittish accent. selection is much better at mastering our unique pronounciation of new england streets and towns.  Sometimes this device is slow to calcuate so you may miss a turn form time to time.  otherwise i couldn't be happier

If your thinking about gps; think garmin.  Its so easy to use and has saved many " why are we lost" arguements for this family.  It makes traveling relaxing and fun.  The only down fall is that it only caculates one route.  However, we have never been steered wrong with it.  We have gone from Michigan to Florida, Texas, Tennesse and California and were guided the whole way by ors gps.  We found good restaurants and lots of different activites using our Garmin.

We have 3 different GPS systems.  For the price we paid for the Garmin & the Magellan you would think that they would be more precise and upgrades would be cheaper!  My husbands Nextar is the BEST GPS we have.  Even though it was considerably cheaper, its acccuracy is remarkable, it has MP3 capabilities (unlike the other two we own) and the upgrades are FREE!!!!!!!!!!

Now I know I can always find my way - a huge relief!  It was really nice, when to be stuck in a traffic jam, to be able to take a new route home around the traffic, and know that I could still find my way home - with the Garmin. It's very easy to use and only requires touching the screen. However, I still haven't figured out (if it is possible) how to "look ahead" to see what follows after the next turn - this is somewhat disorienting on a trip longer than a few miles - to not know what comes after the next turn. Also, in the Washington, DC. area it doesn't handle freeways like the Beltway well....

I love my Garmin GPS.  I'd be completely lost without it, especially travling all over the place and living in a new location.  Living in a new place, it's extremely important to have a reliable GPS that can find me the address I need.  The only complaints that I have are sometimes it doesn't take me the most direct route (like around the interstate versus on the interstate) and a few times it can't find the address, but this may be because I haven't updated my map since I got it.  I love the turn by turn directions and that it tells me what street I will turn on and when.

My husband loves...

This device was easy to set up and I LOVE the way it shows the upcoming streets on the road.  Whenever I spot a place I need to stop along the way, it automatically recalculates what turns I need to make to get back on track.  I've always had problems with "left" and "right", but this has arrows pointing me in the right direction!  I've spent many hours driving around lost during the past couple of months, and I am certain that this will always help me to find my way and will probably pay for itself in fuel savings!  The way it works is terrific...it tells and shows the turn to take, tells... review »

I didn't want to buy this product at first but my husband convinced me that we needed it. We borrowed one from a friend for a road trip to NY and I fell in love with it there. It is so plainly simple and so wonderful. I often miss turns because I cannot see street signs but the C340 calls out the street name and tells you when to turn, and it's accurate! You punch in your destination before you leave, it calculates the route, and you're off. The one negative is that the suction cup often falls off the windsheild, which scares the jeebers out of me. We bought a Garmin beanie-bag thing on Amazon... review »

This thing is fantastic.  I have not gotten lost sonce I bought this.  Very easy to use.  So good I'm buying it for my mother who is not very electronic savvy. It has 6 million points of interest.  WHich is great becasue I live in a far away state that isn't very interesting to the rest of the nation when developing new things.  MAINE.  So being able to find the smallest of school is a great thing.  We travel all over the state for one sport or another and this seems to find every school we are looking for.  And it tells you when you will reach your destination....becasue it can calculate... review »

Before we got our Garmin we usually got lost once or twice on trips.  Now that we have the Garmin Street Pilot we never get lost.  we never have to stop and ask for directions. the Garmin is user friendly.  It is great when you miss a turn because it will reset and give you new directions to get you back on track.  It is kind of nice to hear  the directions spoken instead of having to read map.  The only thing we haven't figured out yet is when it says there is a better route how to get it to tell us the new route. There were few directions in the box so it is more or less drive and learn. ... review »

I love my GPS system. It gets me where I need to go without the mess of a map! All you need to do is type the address of where you are going, and let it guide you. How easy is that!! I am a daily driver, and have two sons, so I stay on the road. I also go to college, so what better gift can I get than this device. I get lost very easy when in places I am not familiar with, so this is a good product for me. Our family loves to take road trips and just go anywhere! My Garmin impresses me and the whole family, it has never taken us to a wrong address since I have had it!

I strongly recommend people...

I got the Garmin GPS for my husband last Christmas -- another guy gadget for his collection.  As for me I use maps...or so I thought.  I was up in the north Goergia mountains and had the device with me.  I got sidetracked and soon became lost.  Lord knows i thought most roads were paved!!! Much to my surprise I ended up on a dirt road with the only inhabitants homes decorated with coaches and wash machines on the front porch!!! I was so glad I had the Garmin with me -- got me out of there in no time with anll my teeth still in my mouth!

P.S.  No long afterwards it began speaking only in...

I've had my Garmin for a few years now and love it. It's saved me so many times from getting lost. My only complaint is that even when I update it online it doesn't always update.

It is a little slow in getting started and often gets hung up on the aquiring location screen.

It is very user friendly. I was able to figure out how to use it without having to read a huge manual.

I like the features where I can choose categories like shopping, restaurants, or even search by intersection if I don't have an exact address.

the garmin street pilot GPS is a great thing to have when you dont know the area or where you are going! it gives you turn by turn directions and shows you main objects like rivers, lakes, airports, etc. i would be lost without it, with the line of work that i do, i'd never leave home without it! GPS systems are great for anyone to have and could even come into play when in case of an emergency. the street pilot is small and compact and even comes with a mounting stand that you can attach to your windshield.

The Garmin c340 is my first GPS device and I am fairly happy with my purchase. I bought this unit on Black Friday of 2007 when it was on sale for 50% off at Circuit City. Since then, I have used it quite frequently, especially when getting lost. This unit is great for taking detours, because it recalculates routes very quickly. The only issue that I have with this unit is that it tends to lose singals easily among tall buildings or if there are any obstructions overhead.
