MrBoard says "Pretty good portable navigation device, but without it's flaws." about Garmin - Nuvi 360

I bought the Garmin nuvi 360 quite some time ago, so I have played around with it a lot. I love it, because I would constantly be lost without it, but there are also many flaws with the device. It sometimes takes a really long time "Acquiring Satellites" in when in cities or rural areas, so I suppose the best place to use one is in the Suburbs. Also the maps are never fully updated, even if you buy the latest edition; which is actually another downside, that you are forced to buy map updates for about $75 a year rather than have them updated for free. Also, sometimes my nuvi seems to want me to go to some obscure place before reaching my destination, such as Phoenix, AZ, which is usually WAY out of the way.

Enough about the cons though. The nuvi 360 is extremely portable and is you can get traffic info if you buy the extra add-on. You can use it for walking, biking, or basically with any type of mode of transportation. Plus I would have most likely wasted a significant amount of my daily...
...

So, we lived with my mother-in-law for eight months, in a different state, and she had one of these. As we were in an unfamiliar state, we borrowed her Garmin a lot. I was not impressed. It would send us down strange little back roads and take us off a highway just to get back on it again in one block. It didn't always take the fastest or easiest route. When I searched for a Walmart it sent me to Kmart! I'd sooner just carry a phonebook in the car with me and read a map; in fact, that's what I do! Much more effective. The voices were fun though! It was decent enough for long-distance travel but not very useful around town. I did like the touch screen, and it was easy enough to figure out how to use, as long as one was not driving at the same time! I also liked that it worked while unplugged. I even stood in the parking lot with it and turned in a circle, and the little car turned on the screen! But I'm very much relieved to be back home now, where I know my way around, and have no need...
...

Pros: Routing seems accurate, size is great, very portable, nice looking maps and routes, POIs I have searched for are available, is fully charged right out of the box! That's a first for me.

Cons: Having a few quirks with bluetooth, a lot of features I'll probably never use, expensive

Summary: For everyone who is asking, they are available at some retailers now. Just do a little searching and you'll find it. And, if nothing else, you can get it on eBay too.

I've had mine for a week and this is the first GPS unit I have ever owned or used, so I may not be as insightful as others could be. I did a lot of searching online and what attracted me to this unit was the bluetooth and the size and Garmin's reputation. Plus, the positive reviews for the Nuvi 350 almost made me purchase that one despite no bluetooth, so when I saw this one I knew it was the one for me.

The routes have been great, it gives me routes that I would normally take. It does a great job of recalculating when you go off-route....
...

I love this GPS system because it has the most "up to date" maps and "live traffic" options. Before using this Gps, i used a Tom-Tom and it was terrible because the maps are out of date and the voice was very annoying. I woulkd recommend this GPS for those who are trying to save some money because it is very inexpensive.
...

Previous to this, I had the Nuvi 350, which is also an excellent device. Since the function is identical in nearly every regard to the 350, there is little point in covering the basics in much depth, but it's worth re-stating some of them. I will go into great detail on the Bluetooth functionality below.

This is such a handy device, and is so well executed, that you would be hard-pressed not to love it. The first thing I noticed about the Nuvi was its incredibly small size and weight. I could not believe how light it was. I literally expected it to have at least twice the heft when I went to pick it up the first time - it was like picking up a deck of cards, but lighter.

The antenna is a flap that is raised from the back, maybe about the size of a matchbook. When raised the Nuvi immediately starts locking in on satellites, when lowered, the unit knows you are through navigating for a while. Intuitive and effective.

Navigation on the Nuvi is very good, fast, and intuitive. It's no different...
...

I AM WRITING WITH MY OPINION ON YM BEST FRIEND GARMIN. GARMIN IS A VERY NICE FRIEND OF MINE THAT CAN GET ME FROM ANYWHERE TO WHEREVER I WANT TO GO. HE IS SUPER SMART AND CAN EVEN PREDICT WHERE THE TRAFFIC IS. WHEN I AM HEADING IN A DIRECTION WHERE THERE EVENTUALLY WILL BE TRAFFIC COMING UP, MY FRIEND WILL ADVISE ME AND THEN AUTOMATICALLY FIND ME AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE SO THAT I CAN GET TO WHERE I TOLD HIM I AM TRYING TO GO AND SO THAT I CAN GET THERE AT A DECENT TIME ALSO. HE IS VERY CONSIDERATE TOWARDS MY TRAVELING TIMES AND DISTANCES. HE WILL WITHOUT A DOUBT ALWAYS ADVISE ME OF THE FASTEST ROUTE AND ALSO THE MOST SHOREST ROUTE WITH NO DETOURS. YES HE EVEN KNOWS IF THERE IS ROAD WORK UP AHEAD. HE IS VERY SMART AND HE DOES NOT JUST SIT THERE AND THINK ABOUT ALL THIS STUFF WHILE GOING ON A TRIP WITH ME HE ACTUALY TALKS OUT LOUD TO ME. I ENJOY MY FRIEND SO VERY MUCH THAT I TAKE HIM EVERYWHERE WITH ME. EVEN MY HUSBAND DOESNT MIND IF HE COMES ALONG....
...

I purchased this Garmin Nuvi 360 in November 2008 so that my husband and I would have no problems finding the condo we had rented for our family 2008 Christmas vacation. My husband had no problems using the GPS. All he had to do was enter the address(es) of our vacation condo or any other location we wanted to go. The voice prompt is loud enough to hear over music. The screen size is small measuring approximately 3.5", but you can easily view the 2-D or 3-D maps. The touchscreen and point of interest lookup are really good features. There are several other features that we have not used yet, which include the bluetooth technology and MP3 player. This GPS provides your average speed and calculates the time of arrival to your destination. The GPS also announces when you have reached your destination. My husband had to share the GPS with our sons while on vacation so we have deceided to purchase them the Garmin Nuvi 360 or another Garmin GPS. This is our first GPS and...
...

Garmin brand has been around for many years, and I have never had an issue with any of the models I have owned. What many people don't think about is the safety that a Garmin unit can provide. This Particular device can actually give you your latitude and longitude location so even if you are stuck way out in the middle of no where you can give exact pinpointed directions to emergency personnel to be able to find you.

Another great feature is the ability to remove it from it's mount in the vehicle take it inside and pre program all the places you wish to go in advance so your not worried about loosing your directions. The screens are easy to use and any co pilot can easily understand how to use it as well so the driver doesn't have to take their eyes off the road.

Another great feature is the miles per hour read out. there is a specific screen that shows you your MPH. If you have recently changed the size of your tires or customized your vehicle many times the speedometer is off....
...

The Garmin-Nuvi is small and compact. It comes wiht a carrying case and an attachment for your windshield. It is very useful and only sent me on a wild goose chase once. (We asked for local ice cream shops when we were traveling once in Miami and we ended up in a residental area with no shops of any sort in sight.) It gives very good directions and several options for the voice and car you see on the screen. I like that it tells you before you get to your turn how far it is from your current point. As you get closer, it gives you a sort of "count down" (500 feet, 100 feet, you missed your turn, you must perform a U-turn - LOL!). I live in Jacksonville, FL and ocassionally I have trouble receiving the signal from the satilites, but usually it's no problem. If I had it to do over, I would purchase this same unit again.
...
