I love cool gadgets - when my friends buy them - but usually hold off on the early adoption.  I like to be certain that what I'm buying isn't going to be buggy, and isn't going to lose its usefulness after a couple of weeks.  I am at week three with my Garmin Nuvi, and I'm still loving this little slice of miracle.  Let's consider what life was like before: I was dating a girl who lived 30 miles away in an area that I have no clue about - and got lost regularly.  I was going on sales calls and client meetings in a 30 mile radius, and was regularly either lost by using my internet directions, or driving perillously due to a lack of focus on the road.  Finally, I had routes that I knew to be longer, but were the routes that I had always driven... because I didn't know the other ways.

Then, my Garmin appeared in the mail... and life was good.

Now, I can not only find my way to my date's house, I can recommend restaurants in the area, simply by finding them in my Garmin - and never got lost along the way.  I made it to my cousin's bar mitzvah in record time, beating the rest of my family.  I no longer get lost on sales calls, and am able to group multiple calls in the same area, because I can find my way from one to the next on the roads... or take the Garmin with me, and walk the streets.  I have also cut down some of my regular weekly driving by finding better routes to the same old place.  All of this comes while no longer printing out directions from the web and killing trees daily - so I'm more green.  My mood is improved, my gas bills are lower and my life is quite honestly better thanks to my Garmin!
