Most HelpfulI bought the Nuvi 255W because it was on sale, though I wanted a different Nuvi model and they claimed to be out of stock on it (they were not) I bought the 2nd choice. The other model had traffic, this one does not, without the addition of an addon.
I'm very pleased with the GPS, it does a good...
Most HelpfulThe Garmin NUVI 255W navigation system sports are large, bright 4.3 inch widescreen LCD display that can be viewed in sunlight. It has an SD memory slot which gives the user the ability to update maps and routing information. I received this device as a gift and have been using it everywhere I drive...
read full review »The Garmin Brand GPS is the best brand by far, value for money and ease of use, large color screen that tells the directions with advanced notice. It does not take long to recalculate and rarely looses satilite recepion (other than quite a bit when in VA Blue Ridge mts, I have yet to take it to any other remote places). I love that it is small and portable and very simple (K.I.S.S.-keep it simple stupid), almost stupid/idiot/moron proof (although nothing is ever dumb blonde moment proof, we all have those), but really everything in the layout has a lot of common sense about it that I just learned...
read full review »Bought on reco from a friend. This is my first ever GPS. So, no experience to compare with others. I used basic routing feature (not POI stuff yet) in a non-urban area (not much tall buildings) for a week now. Here are my observations:
1) The pink highlighted driving path is always correct. But the spoken voice directions will mislead you. Sometimes the street it says to turn is not what the posted street sign is. However, the pink highlighted turn is correct. So, best is to turn off the voice directions and follow the highlighted path or when in doubt, give a preference to highlighted path instead...
The Nuvi 205W's chassis will be immediately familiar to anyone who has ever used a Garmin PND. The unit measures 4.8 inches wide by 2.9 inches tall by 0.8 inch deep and features a color touch screen that takes up almost the entirety of the front panel. The screen measures 4.3 inches diagonally and displays full-color imagery at a WQVGA resolution of 480x272 pixels.
Along the top edge of the unit is the power/lock slider. Pushing this slider toward the power icon powers the unit on and off. Moving the slider toward the lock icon will lock the touch screen. The left edge of the unit houses an SD...
read full review »The Garmin Nuvi 255W is really the perfect GPS unit for a family on the go. My husband and I had considered purchasing a vehicle with the GPS unit built-in; however, after much consideration we decided it would be better to purchase a GPS unit that we could take in any vehicle with us. Imagine if our family car broke down and we had to take a different car on a trip? We would be without GPS. And since my husband gets lost often and (of course) refuses to ask for directions, we went on a hunt for a portable GPS unit.
We wanted a unit with a large screen and clear maps - both of which our Garmin...
read full review »I love my Garmin - Nuvi 255W ! I must admit that I was hesitant to purchase it at first. I thought - how could one of these things really be worth the price? I was wrong. It is well worth the spend in my opinion. I have even tried to "test" it by taking my own route (which I believed was shorter) to a destination only to find out that my route was terrible and the Nuvi would have gotten me there 20 minutes before I arrived using my own route.
This model has the wide screen and spoken street names. If you are considering a purchase, I strongly recommend that you invest the few extra...
read full review »I use our Garmin Nuvi 255 all the time. It has awesome features on it that we didn't even know it had. For instance, we were at our cabin driving home, and we wondered what the name of the lake was that we were passing. We pressed the lake on the screen of the GPS, and it gave us the name of the lake! We went to Germany over the summer, and the rental car had a TomTom GPS. It was much more difficult to use. I've also used a Magellan and still like the Garmin better. The Garmin Nuvi 255 is much more intuitive- someone who is not very technically savvy should have a pretty easy time using it and...
read full review »The Garmin Nuvi 255W is a really sound GPS that will give you some nice features for a GPS that is priced at around 200 bucks. It has a 4.3 inch screen which is nice. However, please understand that this does not show you more of the map when you look at it. It shows the same amount of map area, but stretches that area onto the bigger screen. I don't know if this matters to most people, but i'm sure it would to some people out there. I quite like that the machine gives road names, which makes it much easier than some other GPS machines I have used in the past. It also gives great warnings...
read full review »I can't imagine what life was like before I received this Garmin GPS as a gift. It is easily set and super simple to follow. The route to be taken is drawnin a bright fuschia color that makes finding new places a breeze. I occasionally find the "chatter" of the directions to be slightly distracting, but the volume can be decreased so that this is no longer an issue. I have been in cars with other people using their GPS's and they have all had problems. I hav never had any issues with mine giving confusing directions or incomplete instructions. It's foolproof. If you have the exact address...
read full review »I recently purchased the Garmin Nuvi 255w back in summer because not only did I need a gps for my own use when i travel but also because my school was located downtown. I was not fond of the directions to get to downtown so I figured I would invest in a good gps. I searched for weeks and decided to go with Garmin because it is said to be the number one leading gps system in the United States. I chose the Garmin Nuvi 255w because it was affordable and not too cheap nor too pricy. The price was right. The gps is slim, has a large screen for viewing and it comes with many features. I personally like...
read full review »The Garmin Nuvi 255w is a 4.3 widescreen with voice activation. I dig how the female voice calls the highway, "Entering the motorway"! I got it at RadioShack. Once the signal is captured, no worries! Sometimes, it takes time, especially evening, in a cold climate like Chicago. Mostly, it has been quite cooperative. It has an SD card. The car charger keeps it going for +3 hours long. It would be good if it came with a clip to put on windshield surface. It has text-to-speech! The customer service phone number with it is not much help. It just presses tons of buttons that ultimately leads to only...
read full review »I love my Garmin Nuvi 225W. I the wide screen is a must and worth the extra cost. This GPS has never failed me. I like being able to search for places and saving my favorites. I use my GPS even when I know where I am going because I like 2 features. The first is that it posts the speed limit of the street I am on, as well as the speed that I am going. The second is the estimated time of arrival. Its nice to know when I am going to get somewhere. I would highly recommend this unit!
I purchased my Garmin - Nuvi 255W so that I could travel and be sound about being alone and knowing I could find my way to my aunts home. and other places I go. Its great to help you find a gas station when you need 1. BUT the maps are a little out of date.. I have had a few times when It got me very lost or on little back roads insted of major high ways.. But its a fair item.
We bought this for my in-laws so that they would not get lost anymore. The most important thing was the ease of use and the that you could see the monitor easily as well as her it speak. Have to say that I love all the features but the speed thing. Why dose my husband have to see it on there as well???!!! Overall love it so much we bought one for motorcycle use.
