The Garmin Nuvi 200 is a low-cost, basic GPS that offers everything a first-time GPS user could want. It's compact size doesn't take up too much space on a dashboard, and it can slip easily into a pocket for use while walking around a new area. However, the Nuvi 200's small size makes touch screen access prone to typos for anyone who has moderate-to-large-size fingers or who isn't extremely dextrous. When using my Nuvi 200, I prefer to use a stylus on the touch screen.
Out of the box, it comes with warrantee information and user's manual paperwork, a suction-cup windsheld mount, DC power cord, and of course the wallet-sized GPS unit. I would like to have seen a usb cable and stylus included in the package, not as accessories to be purchased seperately. The manual is easy to read and understand, and the GPS doesn't take long at all to set up and become accustomed to. Even tech-illiterate people can pick up the Garmin Nuvi 200 and start using it within fifteen minutes.
The online content from Garmin's website ranges from very useful (and costly) to free customizable options. One such example is the large variety of downloadable voices and car icons to truly personalize the GPS, many of which are free. As roads are ever changing, and new ones being built, the user can pay for downloadable upgrades to the map and directions in the GPS. Upgrades vary in price depending on a range of specifications, though none seem too unreasonable. There is no monthly fee for this GPS, which is a big plus to any consumer.
In short, the Garmin Nuvi 200 is an inexpensive little GPS that offers all the basics with a very simple interface. It is easy to set up and use, and can be updated online to ensure it's not soon outdated. The screen is a touch small, so I would recommend using it with a stylus. It is a great device, especially for the price.
