Amazing product 310xt

I have used the Garmin Forerunner 305 for years and recently purchased the Forerunner 310xt.  I have not regretted it for a minute.  Although a higher price tag than the 305, the functionality is significantly more beneficial - for the right person.   There are 3 reasons to purchase the 310xt over the 305 if you are debating.   1 - You are racing IM distances and need the extended (20 hour) battery life. 2 - You need it to be waterproof for open water swims and you want it on your wrist.  (Note the ziplock baggie and swim cap still works better than the 310xt functionality) but some people just want it on their wrist, so the waterproof part is a huge bonus for some. 3 - Finally if you use ANT+ Power... this is the selling point. With new firmware, the device does 3 and 30 second power averaging, much of a standard in the power industry.  I use this as my only device to sync up with a Quarq Cinco, It is a great device. I love the device and use it for many hours a week.

Not the latest and greatest GPS technology

My Garmin Street Pilot330 is great for getting you from point a to point b, but if you are looking for extra features, this is not the product for you. I am a Realtor, and have to add my addresses one at a time, and I add my addresses backwards in order to view properties in an ordered list. Not the most convenient way to do things, and very time consuming. I have not had any trouble with the street maps, and it does pick up intersections, lodging, restaurant's, fuel, ATM's & entertainment. Positive: easy to use, touchscreen, extended battery life, expandable memory to add additional maps (great if you travel overseas), save points of interest, detours & avoidances, no monthly service fee, auto re-route Negatives: Bulky, no route planning, touchpad has become difficult to register even after calibration, not traffic compatible, not bluetooth compatible, cannot add multiple destinations I do recommend this product, but only if you need an very user friendly basic device.

Very helpful

This Garmin is very helpful in guiding you to your destination point.   It provides maps and verbal directions that are very helpful.  It also provides input as to what time you will be arriving, how fast you are driving and your maximum speed.

Runner's time machine

I have been a forerunner user for 5 years and recently upgraded to this model of forerunner from forerunner 305. Forerunner 310XT is garmin's new gps enabled watch for tri-athletes. I mostly run but the additional battery time (10 more hours compared to 305 model) appealed to me. This watch has been a great addition to my running gear; I no longer have to wait for gps signals, walk up to my computer to download data or charge every 4-5 days. It even feels lighter than the previous two forerunner watches I have owned. The first time I fired up the watch it found gps signal inside my house within 30 seconds. This is a stark contrast to forerunner 305 which usually takes around 2-5 minutes outside my house. When I plugged in the ANT USB stick, the watch was being charged across the room (about 10 ft), but the ANT stick found it right away with no issues at all and could download the data off the watch. I tend to look too much at the watch around each mile completion to find out my current pace. The splits are usually displayed for about 10 secs and in anticipation to not miss it I keep looking at the watch around the last 30 secs of each mile. The vibrate mode notification on the forerunner 310xt has been a saviour for this problem. I no longer keep looking at my watch and I instantly no exactly when each mile is up.  I am not a big fan of the charger because it is a big clip that grips on the screen while charging and it makes me nervous about the screen being scratched/cracked. But so far I have not noticed any blemishes due to it. The color combination is another plus for me because I love orange. However it is only on the inside portions of the strap, etc and does not overwhelm the overall look. I don't understand why people opt for polar, suunto brand when garmin has done such a great job with the forerunner series. Although the price is a bit steep, I highly recommend this watch to any runner who is serious about the sport and tracking their training log.
