There are several good handheld gps' out in the marketplace.  My gps of choice is the Garmin 60CSx.   I purchased mine approximately nine months ago to use for geocaching.   Much research was done prior to the purchase and what sold me on this particular brand/model was how well it would pick up a signal under "tree cover" which one can find oneself in the woods quite often when geocaching.

Another feature that I like is how easy it is to read the screen.  The screen is not cluttered with a lot of detail.   The map page can be zoomed in or out depending on the view one wants and still...

Our family bought the Garmin 60CSX for geocaching after reviewing many brands and different types of handheld GPS systems. We fell in love with it immediately. It rarely lost the signal under tree cover and was easy to use. It is comfortable in your hands and fits easily into a cargo pocket. Our machine did have the compass which we used a few times and the altimeter that we really did not have a use for here in Florida. The Garmin customer service personnel are wonderful also. The Garmin 60CSX we bought had a malfunction, after one conversation with the customer sevice they sent us new machine... read full review »

I have the Garmin 60Cx gps unit without the compass or the altimeter. I had these features in an eTrex and didn't think they were worth the extra cash. You already get direction when you are moving as well as elevation data from the satellites. Why bother having these extra units in your gps? This is an awesome gps. It is very portable, it will fit in your jeans pocket if you want. The coolest thing is that it takes a microSD memory card which you can store all your maps on. A 2 gig card will store all of North America with room to spare. Old Garmin users will remember how little memory the older... read full review »

Upgraded from a Magellan Explorist.  Couldn't justify the $600 for a Garmin Colorado but I'm more than happy with the 60CSX.  Turns on and locks on satellites quickly.  Good battery life.  I use it for geocaching and it's a huge improvement not having to hand input the coordinates.  Like the functionality, easy to navigate the menus. Glad I bought this one.
