Gardener's Supply Co. Ladybug Buster —

This spring we purchased the Ladybug Buster from Gardener's Supply Co. due to the fact that we had been overrun with Asian Beetles (aka "Ladybugs") last year. These bugs stink, sting & overall just make a big ol mess in your house. Not wanting the incident to repeat itself, we decided to try them. Fortunately, we havent seen any ladybugs before or after putting the trap up, so Im not able to tell you if the item actually works or if that's just a coincidence. What I will comment on is the quality, value & ease of use. Gardener's Supply Co has this item listed on its web site at $24.95 each or 2 for $20.00 each. Either way, I dont really consider that to be a good value (especially when you factor in shipping costs). The trap itself is about 10" L x 2" W x 3" H & is made from white milk jug type plastic. The idea is that the bugs are lured in to the trap by a non toxic lure (included) & fall into crushed eggshells (also included). The trap attaches to a wall or window using adhesive strips. To me, nothing that was included justified the expense, even if it is all natural & supposed to last 2 years.  The instructions were a bit confusing & difficult to follow. First thing is that you soak the lure for 30 minutes in water, push the lure into the trap via the side hole while not spilling the eggshell "sand". I guess Im not that coordinated as I did spill some & had to dump it back in the trap. Then you are supposed to place the trap in the upper corner of the window where the problem is, making sure to keep the "sand" level. That's no easy task considering you cant really see the "sand" inside very well. The lure needs to be removed, soaked in water for 30 minutes & replaced once a week. Overall, I think the design could be much better & for the cost, its pricey. I dont think I will try this product again.

Found some good info online as you suggested.
Asian Lady Beetles and Native Lady Bugs are different from each other. The natives are recommended for pest control and are not house invaders. The Asian (also called the Halloween Beetle since it usually invades houses in October) similarly deters pests. It's not advised for that purpose by any knowledgeable gardening outfit, however, since the Asian, itself, has become a pest.
Now I know. T'was fun.

I am assuming they are the same, but you may want to look up a pic online just to be sure. I found some very interesting info, too . Just do a search under asian beetle.

Good review! Trapping pests is a real pain. I just reviewed ant traps which, at least, do the job more easily than the Ladybug Buster. Are the ladybugs I'm thinking of different from yours? People in California buy little orange ladybugs by the pound to eat pests off of tomato and other vegetable plants.

With the exception of the lure, that sounds like something you could probably make yourself at home. It would probably be worth some research to find out about the lure itself. Maybe there's a household substitute, or you can buy the lure by itself pretty cheaply.

Great review! My father-in-law has a lady bug overtaking at his house and they are EVERYWHERE! I had to sleep in a converted garage once and they creep under the doors and I would find them in the blankets and everything. What a nuisance!
