Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Allen Rickman, Tony Shaloub, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell are each lending great comedy to this already very funny movie. I didn't know that Sigourney had a funny side and Allen Rickman also had never struck me as the yuk-yuk type but they all stepped up and gave 100% for this wacky Sci-fi comedy with lots of fun special effects and one-liners.

Tim, Sigourney, Allen, Tony, and Daryl were the crew for a campy, TV sci-fi "star Trek" style show for years and then...canceled. Now these type-casted, has-been actors have still not been able to live down their years as the crew of the NSEA Protector. Twenty years later, they do very little besides voice-overs or the occasional grand opening of the local Wal-marts but out of no-where, Tim Allen, the "living in the past", full-of-himself ex-captain of the canceled show meets some unusual fans at a "Space Convention" who insist that he reprise his role. They are aliens who for many years have been catching signals from Earth's TV...the campy series that Tim was heading as "Commander Peter Quincy Taggert". These aliens have mistakenly believed the show to be realty they call "Historical Documents," and they convince Tim to come to their ship and take over command to fight a vicious alien race who means to destroy them.

Tim, thinking it is a guest showing on a low-budget back-lot (and finally an acting job) grabs his clue-less fellow crew-mates and get transported to the alien's ship, not realizing that they might have to use guts and brains instead of badly written dialougue and TelePrompters. They will have to improvise their butts off to survive this acting job...and this time, it really is for real and everything is at stake!

Lots of fun comedy and great chemistry between the actors (and "non-actors") is all you need for belly laughs and it's a family movie, too. Even the kids will love it!
