The GE Top Load Washer WJRE5500G was the first High-efficiency washer I bought. I thought it would be such an improvement over my old agitator washer. I was wrong. My old washer cleaned the clothes better. Unfortunately, after 12 years it finally died. Energy Efficiency This does use less water. I think this is a negative aspect because the clothes don't seem as clean as they could be. Cleaning Time It takes quite a while to wash a load of laundry. Performance Not long after we bought this it started clunking. It works fine sometimes and other times it makes horrible noises and doesn't spin the clothes out. My old washer would do this every once in a while if the clothes were unbalanced. With this washer, the clothes are in there evenly and it just doesn't work right. Design You put the fabric softener in the center of the washer. This get all gunked up and then I've had that gunk that is down inside get on my clothes. I tried cleaning this and it is hard to do. This, in addition to the clunking and clothes not spinning out, makes me wish I never would have bought this washer. Yes it does have a lot of nice features and settings, but if it doesn't work all those things really don't matter. Durability We didn't have this washer very long before it was not working well.

We bought this product after our 10 year old GE washing maching quit working. We decided to stick with the GE brand because we liked our old GE washer. I don't think we will be buying another washing machine from GE again. We have had the washer for about a year now. It worked very well for about the first 9 months. Since then we have had issues. The first thing we noticed was that when it was on the spin cycle it would make a very loud rattling noise. It sounded like the whole machine was rocking. I tried to make sure I put the clothes in evenly and not overfill it but that has not seemed to help. The next problem we have is that the spin cycle is now not working. After the clothes have gone through the entire cycle they are still very wet. I normally have to have run an extra spin cycle on the clothes so they aren't soaking wet. If I don't do this it takes two cycles in the dryer to get the clothes dried. Overall, I would not recommend this machine. It was on the cheap side and that is the reason we bought it. But like normal you get what you pay for.

We recently had to replace our old washer when it was broken beyond repair. We decided to go with the GE top loaded washer. First reason being I prefer to have a top loading washer for convenience because I do a lot of laundry. The next reason, it is very efficient and does not take long at all to fully clean a large load of laundry. I have twins and with their clothes, my husbands clothes, and my own, I needed a reliable large washer to be able to keep up with the amount of clothes and the durability to be able to be used multiple times a week and it has done a great job. I love the design of the machine not only because of the physical appearance of it, but it is also very easy to use. There is not a bunch of manuals you have to read in order to learn how to work it. If you want a simple, easy, efficient washer, I would highly recommend this washer. The washer is simple enough that anyone can help do the laundry !

It works, but we've had to repair it a few times, not awesome quality. If you're looking for a something cheaper, it'll do, just don't expect it to last more than a couple years. If it breaks, try popping off the front cover and making sure the ground wire is grounded- save you one trip from the appliance guy. Energy Efficiency Nothing special, just average. Haven't noticed a difference from previous ones we've owned. Cleaning Time Pretty standard. Quick wash does ok if you're in a hurry, has sufficient settings. Super wash is nice for really dirty loads. Performance Just make sure not to overfill it or nothing gets clean. Ease of Use User interface design is fine and pretty standard. Not confusing. Design Simple and easy, sufficient without too many extras, but suffices. Durability Disappointed that ours didn't last longer. I remember my parents having their washer/dryer set for almost 20 years, this one crumbled in less than 10. I guess it's true, they don't make them like they used to.

When I moved into my new house, it came with a very old washing machine and an even older dryer. I knew I needed to buy something new, but I didn't have a very large budget to work with. I went to a really great appliance store that offers deals on scratch and dent items. Of all the machines I looked at, this GE machine offered the best features for the best price. It was very easy to install, and didn't take me much time to get familiar with all the cycle choices. I like that overall, it's a very quiet washing machine (our laundry room is just off the kitchen, so that's important to me). I like that there are several fast cycles and slow/gentle cycles to choose from -- no matter what kind of load I'm washing, there's a cycle to fit it. And, I really like the ability to choose load size...you can set it at medium, or in between medium and large, for example. The only negative I can think to give this machine is that sometimes, it seems to be sensitive to the balance of the items in the wash. If things are not balanced just right, it rocks quite a bit during the spin cycle. Other than that, though, I think it's a great machine for a great price.

I bought this washer to replace my old, non-HE washer. It can perform as HE (using the auto-sense setting) or I can choose my own load size, which is great. It has plenty of great options, such as power wash, auto soak, and (my favorite) a quick rinse cycle. It's also fairly quiet and the cycles are quick so my laundry is done faster. Ease of Use It's confusing to learn all the settings at first, but otherwise great!
