GE Roaster Oven Model No. 169152 —

We picked up the GE Roaster Oven Model No. 169152 a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving.  Since we were hosting a big Thanksgiving dinner at our place, I wanted to free up my stove and oven space as much as possible.  The GE Roaster Oven looked like it would be a perfect choice since the turkey takes up most of the space in the oven and for the longest period of time.  We bought it and I'm so glad we did!

GE Roaster Oven Model No. 169152

The GE Roaster Oven is a fairly large roaster.  It measures about 2 feet long by 1 foot wide and 9-10 inches in height without counting the open space from the feet on the roaster.  The GE Roaster Oven will hold up to an 18 pound turkey and 17 quarts of food.

The roasting unit is made of enamel, and the roasting pan is made of enamel over steel.  The roasting pan sits down inside the roaster and has a matching lid.  The lid fits snugly and securely.  There is also a rack with handles to put down in the bottom of the roaster to make lifing your turkey/roast/etc. out of the roaster easily.

Temperature Control

The GE Roaster Oven has a manual temperature control knob that gives you lots of choices in temperatures.  The oven will bake up to 450 degrees and the settings are set for every 25 degrees in between 450 and 150 degrees.  After the 150 degree setting is a space for low heat to warm, and then to "off".

My Thoughts on the GE Roaster Oven

We used the GE Roaster Oven for the first time on Thanksgiving Day.  My husband wanted to try it out beforehand but we never really got the chance.  I roasted a  16 lb. turkey in this oven and I think that it would have held up to a 20 lb. turkey because there was plenty of room left for a larger bird.

I went by the directions on the turkey label for my temperature setting and time to cook.  I found out that the GE Roaster Oven baked much faster than a conventional oven and after 2 hours of roasting, we had to turn the temperature down to 200 degrees or we would have had a black and crispy roasted turkey to serve.  After 3 hours of cooking the turkey was coming off the bones and we put the temperature control on the lowest warming selection since we were still waiting on some of our family members to arrive.

The turkey came out perfect!  It was nice and juicy and tender.  I got lots of compliments on it and can only pass them along to the GE Roaster Oven.  Baking the turkey became a simple task and nothing to fret over.  I basted it a couple of times and checked on it hourly.  Other than preping it for baking, the GE Roaster Oven did all the rest.

Clean up was a breeze.  Although the instruction manual doesn't say the enamel is stick-free, it was very easy to clean up.  The roasting pan itself is not very heavy and was easy to handle in the sink.  The roasting unit cannot be submerged in water and is cleaned by merely wiping it with a soapy dish cloth and then dried.  The unit didn't look dirty at all after we roasted the turkey and I imagine this could occur from steam or dripping if you are cooking a soup inside.

I am totally in love with this roaster and can't wait to roast a pork loin in it.  I am also anxious to try a soup or gumbo in it.  It is the perfect size to make a big batch and freeze some for meals later.

We paid $29.94 for the GE Roaster Oven at Walmart.  This was so much worth it just for freeing up my oven cooking Thanksgiving Dinner.  I can see now that I will be using it a lot more often!

As you can see, I really like the GE Roaster Oven and highly recommend it!  It is a miracle worker for cooking for a crowd and makes your job in the kitchen go much smoother and without any hassles!

My sister loves to cook with all these countertop appliances. I on the other hand have a microwave and toaster oven. I do own 3 crock pots but I don't hardly use them. Being single it's difficult for me to be that patient for something to slow cook and I'm not comfortable with the thought of starting something, leaving the house, and returning to hmmm...a nice meal in the pot or a house that has burned down--yikes! Yeah, I'm paranoid about fires! ~Gigi

This sounds like a great idea. I miss my double ovens in my old house. This would give me the additional space when cooking for a large crowd.

This is definitely something that I could use. I'm sick of those flimsy foil disposable pans!

I have to buy a new crock pot. My girls broke the crock to mine that I keep at home. I have an older one in the 5th Wheel :0 Gotta love those things when camping!
