We bought this electric-powered GE range (model RB757) for $495 a little over two years ago. I cook for a family of five every day, and so far I have not had any problems with this GE stove. We chose the off-white color for our cookstove, but I believe it also comes in white as well. Here are some of the features:

  • controls on the back of the oven (I like this feature because I have three children and feel that this is safer)
  • 4 coils on top (knobs must be pushed in before turning, which is another safety feature that is helpful, I cover my drip pans with aluminum foil because I tend to be a messy cook that has occasionally tested the smoke alarm with my cooking)
  • digital clock/timer (I've had a few problems when I have tried to preheat the oven and set the timer before the oven has preheated because I'm not sure if it keeps the timing on the timer every time. I think it would be helpful to have two timers for when I am cooking several different items that require different cooking times. The clock is easy to set.)
  • large oven size (I can get two full cookie sheets in side-by-side--my old oven door would not close with a cookie sheet turned vertically. The oven seems to heat pretty evenly but I often tend to cook at a lower temperature for a bit longer to get my recipes to turn out the way I like them.)
  • fairly large storage drawer beneath
  • self clean feature (I've only used this once but it worked very well--takes a little over 4 hours to clean--I read the directions very carefully and was glad that I did because I had never used the self clean feature on an oven before and did not realize that I needed to remove the shelves and also took everything out of the storage drawer for good measure)
  • oven light can be turned on/off and window is in door (really like having this so the girls can watch cookies, etc. baking)
  • 2 oven shelves that are easy to adjust
  • timed bake feature (I haven't used this)
  • top lifts easily for cleaning
  • one-year limited warranty

My Viewpoint:

I have used this GE cooking stove for over two years and have not had any major problems with it. It seems to be a good, practical stove for a reasonable price. We've owned quite a few GE appliances, and they typically work well and last for a pretty long time without needing replacement parts or servicing. If you are looking for a stove with lots of fancy features and extras, you'll probably want to move up in the price range.

Thanks for the great feedback and glad you're having a good experience with your GE appliances as well.

My appliances are also GE and I have had them for 5 years and no problems with them yet. Great review and I loved how you added the personal touch to each feature. ~Gigi

Hey and thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment! I've heard it's easy to burn out the elements on a flat top. I can be a messy cook, so I figured I'd go with this and have been pretty pleased with it. If you use aluminum foil, make sure to make a hole where the stove vents--usually the back right burner!

Great points here. After trying out a flat top, I am back to electric as well and I probably need the aluminum foil too...

You've got that right. I can write a few reviews on some appliances I'm not so happy about as well.

I'm glad it is working out for you. There is nothing worse than an appliance that is constantly breaking down!
