Do NOT buy

1

Do NOT buy (unless you have a really cute repairman)! We purchased four years ago and have had to have four repairs, each time between $120 and $250. Plus, talk about water efficient- cannot get enough water to fill up to do a load, there's no setting to add more water! I never type reviews, but had to this time because I want to spare others the horror! Save yourself the agony & do NOT purchase this washer, but if you must, buy the warranty! Dryer works just fine.

Easy to use, attractive design

I've used this heavily for six years and never had a breakdown. The machine has many functions I like, such as pet bedding, sneakers, and comforter. Despite the many setting choices I rely heavily on "everyday". One thing that I don't like is that the rim at the top of the drum gets very dirty with sediment from the wash water. It also makes intermittent starting and stopping noises that still cause me to pause what I'm doing to try and figure out what's running. The washer pairs electronically with the dryer which makes it easy to carry over the wash settings to dry settings without having to think much about it. One other drawback is the detergent tray, which has a removable piece for dry and liquid soap that you need to keep handy if you switch back and forth between types and brands for diferent applications like I do. Also, the bleach reservoir is shallow at the top and located under the lid near drum. The bleach runs into an enclosed area, but it runs down the shallow funnel plate first, leaving bleach in an area that I'm always afraid will touch the clothes in the next load. Overall I'm quite happy with the washer.

If you want wrinkled clothes buy this washer.

I have owned front loaders before and my husband decided to buy the GE Harmony after the sales man sold him the hype. I have been utterly disappointed with this machine.   It leaves my clothes dirty.  I have tried several brands of HE detergent and I still have dirty clothes.  I had used the samed detergent with my other machine and it worked fine.  I spend more time spot treating and checking clothes before they go into the dryer.  I had a cloth that I had used to clean up a dirty spot on the wall from the dog and kids hands. I washed it with other towels, when I went to wet it to use again the dirt was still in it and the water was coming out dirty when I wrung out the rang the water was dirty.  Then when you do pants or jeans, they come out wrinkled.  The longer items twist and tangle up.  It causes them to come out wrinkled. It is very difficult to get the tangled mess out of the washer, because it becomes so tangled and heavy.  To keep a minimal amount of wrinkling I have to shake out every single item. You have to almost climb into the washer to get the small items off the bottom.  To sum up, you spend more time checking your clothes for spots before you dry them.  You spend more time shaking out you clothes and ironing for wrinkles.  Stay away from this washer, far away.

The GE washer prifile harmony  I have bought it last year around Christmas. And the store had promotions for washers. I have used it about half a year since then. This machine is really powerful and clean my clothers and sheets pretty well. It worths to give a try.

Great style- nothing else wows.

We've had the GE Profile Harmony washer for over 3 years now. It hasn't broken down yet, which is a surprise because our other GE appliances broke down in less than 2. This washer is definitely a good looking washer. With a digital display and touch screen buttons, it's definitely a step up from the average dial setting washers. It has many pre-set options for different types of clothing materials as well as special cycles for things like shoes, rugs, and comforters. There is a pull out tray in the center inside for dry/wet detergent, softener and extra strength stain removers. The tub inside is stainless steel, with no cylinder in the middle. This gives the top load washer more space for larger loads. When we first got the washer I was worried that the buttons would quickly stop working and render this machine useless but they're all still functioning correctly at this time. Every once in a while we get leaking from the bottom, and the cleaning isn't as effective as I'd like it to be.

All Style - No Substance

This is a high efficiency washer, which generally means it is supposed to wash better while using less water. One needs to use special "HE" laundry detergent to maximize these features and prevent over-sudsing. We wash a lot of athletic apparel at my home, and this washer cannot only get these items clean, but they come out stinking worse than they entered. I have used every detergent recommended by both GE and Consumer Reports without success. The washer does not drain the tub completely, as I can manually agitate the tub when its empty and hear the water in the bottom. This water sits in the tub after washes are completed and festers. There is no telling what kind of a poisonous soup is brewing in the bottom of that washer tub! My best strategy to overcome this problem is to use the "presoak" option on every load in the hopes that the poisonous soup is flushed down the drain after the presoak and only fresh water is used during the wash cycle. This takes much longer and completely negates any high efficiency benefits of the machine. The GE service technician was hapless and no help whatsoever.

Dangerous. Mine exploded.

1

I will repeat what I wrote in the discussions board.  My GE Harmony washer exploded - literally burst apart - during a spin cycle.  The top blew up and out, the sides blew out and tore into my wall, which was 8-10 inches away, with enough forced to leave a 10-12" wide, 1" deep dent in my wall.  I'm lucky no one was injured. It was spinning bedding and it was not a particularly full load.  Never, ever buy this machine.  Clearly, there is a significant manufacturer defect.

Love the way it saves me on Laundry soap!

When we first went to look at Washers; I wanted less expensive, but my spouse wanted good quality.   I have to admit we got the best of both worlds. This washer was good quality, a bit more expensive then I would have liked, but a great buy.  Our old washer slowly stopped working until it completed died on us one Sunday.  I knew we had to get a washer immediately so we looked at a discount store close to our home.  The store had some great prices and just about every style and manufacture.  I liked them all  and the colors.. wow!   We looked around until we found our GE.   It was beautiful, so clean and the stainless steel drum made the deal. We wanted a top load and it was, we were smitten with it.  We decided to buy it but we did not know how practical this machine could be.  We got it home and we literally only use 1 small less then half cup of laundry soap to clean a **FULL  **load.  I now buy laundry soap once a month. We were using 2 bottles a month before and still the clothes were questionably clean.   I am so impressed with this washer I will and have recommended it to my friends.

great for our busy family of 5 plus the dog

We have had this washer for over 3 years now and I swear we average over 3 loads a day, with some days topping 7 loads. This includes the dog's bed, blankets and dirty, muddy towels (we have a 75 pound yellow lab who loves water and puddles, the muddier the better). We also have 3 children very active sports and have mnay muddy soccer socks and sweaty volleyball jerseys. Our washer is going, going almost all day long. It's quiet so I can run it at night - the laundry room is upstairs right outside the kids bedrooms. I also love the feature that I can "save" or program custom cycles adn then it's so easy to just press a button then start for our most common cycles. I recently found out that it speaks Spanish as well... interesting. It is neat however that the washer communicates to the dryer at the end of the wash cycle so the dry time is automatically set, nice! It also has a nice huge drum... lots of space for King size comforters and sheets. I can load it up with a huige load and it's High Efficiency (HE) so I can also use very little soap and it's works great! Highly recommended.

Just go for a front loader instead of the GE Profile top loader.

I just recently purchased and received the GE Profile Harmony washing machine model: WPGT9360EPL on March 12, 2010 and I am disappointed. The water sensor must be broke on mine because it doesn't fill up completely for some of my full loads. I have to open the door and move the clothes around and then close the door again before the machine will sensor itself again and continue to fill up with the correct amount of water. Thank goodness this model was not a front loader washing machine because you can't open the door on those once they have started. Also the machine is very deceiving at first because once you have loaded your clothes and started the washing process the machine rotates 360 degrees while filling up with water allowing the clothes to compress down towards the bottom of the drum leaving you to believe you could fit more clothes in this load. Overloading this machine eliminates the complete and thorough cleaning potential. It is going to take alot of adjusting to this machine if your like me and coming from an older model GE Profile. However this machine is super super quiet, and the control panels can be switched from the washer to the dryer depending on which side you need the machines to be on. Also you will never have to set the dryer to this matching set because it reads your washing machine setting.
