Function and Style

5

I love this gas range for both its stylish look and function. Perhaps judging it against a built in or a double oven, it would not rank as high, but judging it for what it is, against other ovens that are freestanding and single, it's a great oven. Stovetop: 4 burners, with 2 medium in size (one at the front, one at the back) one small (at the back) and one large (front) with an extra large "power boil" flame function for use with large pots (Fantastic! Boils water quickly when you're in a hurry and want to throw something quick and easy like pasta together) Oven: Pretty basic - gas powered, cooks evenly. Features: Two features I like the most revolve around cook time / start time. You can set the oven to delay start (I use this feature mostly to pre-heat the oven so that it's ready to go as soon as I get home) and you can set a cook time so that the oven automatically turns off after the set time. You can even use both of these features together (handy for popping something in if you're outside in the yard and don't necessarily want to run in in 20 minutes to put dinner on --- you can set the delay start AND set an off time ---so that you only have to show up to take dinner out and eat!) Yes, it's not quite as sleek as a built in, but it's also cheaper than a built in The extra money might be worth getting the double oven if that's a personal preference, but if this is what your budget is, it would be my first choice for a single gas freestanding range.

Dangerous

1

In October 2012 I purchased a GE Profile dual oven gas range. On two occasions now I have found that a stove top burner knob has been turned without notice and without ignition, once when I left for the day and once at night when my family was sleeping, allowing gas to fill the home. Any spark would have caused an explosion. It concerns me that the knobs are very sensitive and even with the slightest touch and without notice the knobs will turn and gas will seep out without any sound or warning. In addition, the degree of the turn of the knob in order for gas to seep out is so slight, it is easy to overlook. I have read about many others on the internet with the same issue. There is a flaw in the design of these knobs that it allows for such easy turning and no warning when it is turned. The issue of how much pressure is needed to turn the knob, the degree to which the knob is turned when starting the flow of gas and/or a warning signal when the knobs have been employed should be addressed immediately. I am sure there could be a simple fix. This can be a very dangerous problem. I will be purchasing knob guards in an effort to temporarily alleviate the problem with my stove. I hope that GE recognizes this as an issue and provides other customers with a warning and also begins a process to design a resolution. Temperature Control I have not had a concern thus far. Heat Distribution I have not had a concern thus far. Durability Can cause a major problem. Design Can cause a major problem. Ease of Cleaning I only put this because I have not yet needed to clean my oven but the stovetop is easy to clean.

this GE Profile Oven is pretty good

There's a lot to like about this oven. The stainless steel is nice and it looks good with the other stainless steel applliances in my kitchen. The electronic display for the ovens looks nice and is easy to see and it makes it very easy to set the temperature. The flames on the stove part come on almost instantly, so you don't have to worry about gas leaking out. Also, the way everything comes out, the top part is fairly easy to clean. However, this is a gas stove, which I find to be better than electric stoves, but there are some risks with it. The knobs for the stove can turn with very little ease and I have accidently turned the flames on by brushing against it. Luckily, the flames actually came on so I noticed it right away and didn't have to worry about having gas leak in. But anyway, you do need to be careful around it.

Good range but features could be more useful

I had to replace my high low cooking center and opted for this in black.  I like the stove very much but it does take getting used to.  I am new to convection cooking and haven't gotten that much out of it yet but I like that I can switch from traditional to convection.  On the stovetop part, the big burner comes in handy for boiling water but I don't use the simmer too much and think I would have prefered the 3rd regular burner or a combo like I have had in other stoves with a simmer setting on the burner.  It is very easy to clean around the burners but the black control panel shows every fingerprint!  Also the grates which were shiny black are showing some scratches after only a few months use and they have not been abused which is somewhat distressing.  A new stove always takes some time to get familiar but overall I am pretty pleased but I think I should have paid more attention to the burner setup.

Not too sure on this one

We just recently moved in to a house that has one of these ranges. I have never had a gas stove and I was very hesitant to use it. I have 3 children and the way it lights just terrifies me. A couple of negatives first. I dont like that under the grate food just collects. Since it is black everything is noticeable and it is kind of a pain to have to lift the grate up everytime to clean. Also, when you bake something in the overn I dont like that when the timer is set and it goes off, it doesnt stop beeping and the overn shuts off. A couple of positive things is that I love that when you turn on the temperature to what you want it set at I like that it shows you what the current temperature is. I also like the burner that works for super fast boiling. i dont like though how high the flames go though. Overall it is a good range, I just need to get used to the gas and figure out a way to keep it clean.

Upon my parents recent relocation from South Dakota to Arizona they found themselves in the market for home appliances.  After much discussion about their new budget (they are retired) the decided that they didn't want to give up the dependabilty, functionality and style of their previous kitchen range, therefore the decided to purchase for the second time their GE Profile Stainless Steel Gas Range.  They love this model which offers many great features for my mother to utilize when cooking family meals.  The beauty of the stainless steal compliments their kitchen and they really enjoy the durability with the grandkids coming over and ramming toys into it. I asked my mother why she went with this model and her reply was simply "I love it".
