Mediocre at best

By

from USA

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

I bought this to place in my garage. It looked simple and effective and I was able to get a decent price on it. I'm glad that I wasn't purchasing this to be my main refrigerator. The fridge portion is cramped, but it's sufficient for a secondary fridge. The freezer is where I draw my main issues. First of all, the drawer doesn't hold very much at all. It's a bin system that forces you to lump everything in together. Second of all, the ice maker takes up half the available space. Third, ice gets every since your food is so close to the cooling unit.

Noise Level
Not loud at all (bias, I keep mine in the garage so I'm not as affected).

Interior Organization
The fridge portion is fine, the freezer doesn't allow for organization.

Temperature Control
Haven't had many big issues, just the usual products closest to the cooling units freezing.

Ease of Cleaning
Not hard to clean at all.

Durability
Seems like more of a temporary solution than a durable good.

Design
Not laid out for much use. Maybe it would work in a 1 bedroom apartment.

Not bad, but would not get again

By

from Whitsett, NC

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

Overall, it's a good fridge, but I have several complaints. The biggest issue is that the freezer door opens instead of pulling out. While, I did not think this would matter, it truly does! The freezer space is not very large. We've also had issues with packaging getting stuck to the shelves in the fridge. I'm not sure why. Additionally, the back of the fridge gets cold and tends to freeze beverages.

Noise Level
Extremely quiet...except the ice maker.

Interior Organization
I do like the organization and the drawer sizes.

Temperature Control
Again, issues with beverages freezing.

Ease of Cleaning
Everything is removable which makes it easy.

Durability
So far, so good.

Design
Aside from the freezer door, I think it works and looks nice.

Hate the bottom pull-out freezer drawer and cramped fridge

By

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

Our rental home for the summer has a GE Profile 20.2 cu.ft. Energy Star Bottom-Mount, Pull-Out Drawer Refrigerator in white-on-white. I hate it. I really use a freezer a lot, and mine at home is so much better. It's not just because I'm used to the ease of a top-mounted, full-width freezer with a door that opens rather than a pull-out drawer.

The pull-out drawer on this GE Profile 20.2 cu.ft. Energy Star Bottom-Mount, Pull-Out Drawer Refrigerator is pathetic. The ice maker takes up about a third of the space on one side, and if you don't keep emptying the top layer of ice, the action of sliding the freezer drawer in and out will scrape that top layer of ice off into the freezer compartment. You'll have to practically stand on your head, reaching behind the drawer, to get the spilled ice out.

And just try cleaning up any spills in the back and bottom, underneath the pull-out drawer. Somehow the drawer got left open just enough to defrost everything in it, and my bag of popsicles defrosted and melted, leaving a sticky, multi-colored mess on the bottom of the freezer compartment. To clean it, I'll have to empty the freezer drawer and pull it entirely out to get to the mess. Disgusting and impractical.

The design isn't practical either - with a drawer freezer, you have to take everything out just to get to what's at the bottom. And there are probably things that are underneath the ice maker tray, so you have to dig even deeper, letting all the cold air out of the freezer and jacking up your power bill.

The refrigerator compartment seems a bit cramped but works okay, except that a melon I pushed toward the back got half-frozen - the front was fine, the back was ruined.

I'll be happy to go back to my Sears fridge.

Interior Organization
Fridge is OK; freezer (drawer style) is my least favorite style. I prefer wide shelves.

Temperature Control
Items shoved toward the back tend to freeze.

Ease of Cleaning
Shelves and drawers aren't too hard to remove.

Design
I don't like the drawer-style freezer.

Great Looking but Not So Functional

By

from Austin, IN

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

We love the look of this refridgerator but the functionality is a little off! When we first got it, we had a hard time with getting the thermostat just right for the freezer and the fridge part. At first, we didn't have alot of trouble with the freezer but now we're starting to notice that things aren't completely frozen. However, most of the time our milk has ice in it and other things get frozen while in the fridge! Other times, things won't be cold enough in the fridge even though we haven't changed the thermostat at all. It's very strange and I don't know why or how it does that. I love that the freezer is in the bottom and it hold alot more than a normal upper freezer does. I also notice that I don't snack around on frozen packaged foods as much as I used to because I forget they're in there...haha. We didn't pay full price for our fridge thank Goodness because I would have probably sent it back. We did get ours used, and we've kind of gotten used to it's quirks! I wouldn't recommend going out and buying one full price...I've heard too many complaints from others with the same kind as this one! Get back to the drawing board GE!!!

Not Exactly What I Am Looking For in a Refrigerator

By

from Burke, VA

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

We inherited this GE Bottom Freezer with the purchase of a new home and have nothing but problems with it.  The veggies freeze in the refrigerator and the ice melts in the freezer.  The trouble shooting guide is useless because it assumes that everything that is wrong with the refrigerator is caused by the owner of the fridge (i.e. move the food around, you have something in the wrong place, if you were doing everything right, the refrigerator would work perfectly, yada, yada, yada).

The bottom line is that this looks like a great refrigerator, but it does not do what it is supposed to do - which is keep the stuff in the fridge cold and keep the stuff in the freezer colder.  For some reason, it does not work that way.  Give me less aesthetics and more functionality. I would not recommend this to anyone.

This GE bottom freezer just doesn't do it for me!

By

from Blairstown, NJ

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

When our refrigerator died, after only 5 years (which I've heard is normal now), we had to get a new one ASAP. I'd had a GE refrigerator before moving here, and I wanted to change to a bottom freezer again, so we went down to the store and checked ALL of the ones on the floor. I finally decided on this one...not realizing I hadn't looked at it carefully enough. Please make sure you know what you're getting, before you actually get it!

There isn't room on the shelves for milk bottles, so they HAVE to go on the door...as do any other tall bottles, such as ketchup, salad dressings, etc. Otherwise, I'd have to take a shelf out, and there wouldn't be enough room for food.

There are NO shelves on the freezer door, and I never noticed it! I don't know about the rest of you, but I NEED shelves there, so I can put my boxes of frozen veggies in them. There was also no shelf to separate the ice cube trays from the bin to hold the extras in, without taking up too much of the room on the shelf, so I have them just sitting on top of the bin.

In order to keep my veggies separate, I had to put a plastic box (like a double size shoe box) on the shelf to keep them from falling out of the door. It's also hard to pull out the wire food bin on the bottom. I would never have gotten this, if I'd realized all the problems I'd have with it!

GE Profile a good fridge overall though a bit small

By

from Portland, OR

Comments about GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:

When we first purchased our fridge we were shopping more for a fridge that would have high energy efficiency standards, be within our budget and would look nice as we were planning on selling the house. The GE Profile does all that nicely. At the time we elected for a bottom freezer thinking it made more sense to have the food we accessed less often on the bottom. In retrospect and after having three children this was a poor idea. Our kids love to get at the sherberts we make for them in the morning and having them out of reach would be amazing, but we just weren't thinking kids when we bought the fridge.

For our family of five the fridge is acceptable size. We had to buy a chest freezer recently because we enjoy saving berries and buying meat in bulk and the fridge is built only for the food you plan on using in the somewhat recent future. We do a lot of menu planning and so someone who buys to stock up might have trouble with the somewhat economical size. We had a renter who shared the fridge for a little while and then the size became an issue, especially along the door.

We've never had any maintenance issues and we like that the front isn't a metal that can be magnetized to keep things clean. The seals, fans, bells and whistles all seem to work just as well as when we first purchased it which is more than I can say for most fridges after 4 years of ownership. Thanks GE for a solid product.
