GE JGP940SEKSS —

I needed a stovetop that would hold up to the abuse that my husband can put on it. I also wanted a professional one, so I could manage doing bigger containers on the holders, and have lots of different setting controls for heat for when I put together a dinner party and need a large stovetop area for a small kitchen.  This fit the bill.

And although its easy to take apart to clean, its still a little tough getting everything off the stainless steel.  not sure of what my husband is cooking, but when it spills over, it heat seals on to the little metal collars below the ceramic tops, and is tough to clean.  So, it now consequently always has a little rusty, dirty look to part of the cooktop.  Ceramic part stains too. It was OK at first, when I was more diligent about cleaning it after every meal, but if you let it go for a few days, its tough to clean without the fear of scratching it.  The metal gratings are heavy, which is actually good - but you need to be careful when you take it apart to clean.  I accidently dragged it off one time when I was putting it in the sink, instead of lifting it off, and it left a small scratch in the stainless steel where the grooves are that hold it into place.

Be careful if you put this into a tract house.  Most houses only offer the minimum amount of space between the cooktop and the stove hood, and in my case, I had a microwave hood.  when I replaced everything to upgrade the kitchen, I reconditioned the cabinets without replacing them, and didn't consider when they installed the new stovetop and microwave, that even though its at the minimum specs betw the two things, but its right at the 17" it should be.  When I put the water on its power boil setting, the whole microwave hood gets really hot, and I nearly scalded my hand trying to open the door - which sits right over the power boil section of the cooktop.  A large pot fits in the area, but sits only a few inches from the hood, so again, its tough to stir sometimes if i have it set too high.  Better when I'm using shallower, larger pans though, like my wok.  Heats it up good; and cooks pretty evenly.
