Bought without reading reviews!

We bought this washer without reading any reviews and truly bought it from, a well know selling site, because of the price. They were moving and had to get rid of it asap and we needed one asap. But I am so happy we did. We are a family of six so I do launry at least twice everyday. I love the size of the loads the best. I am able to wash my childrens comforters inside of it vs our old one that was smaller. It is a top loader and everyone lately is wanting a front loader but to be its just more work. You can use any soap in the top loaders. I have always loved GE products. They are built right and so far havent had any issues. The washer itself is simple, so if your looking for a bunch of buttons and options this wouldnt work for you. But for doing as much laundry as I do, it works for us! We also bought its brother, the dryer and are just as pleased! Cleaning Time The loads are done quickly! Performance I have never had issues with clothes coming out not dirty. Ease of Use very simple to use Design Its simple, but hidden in a laundry room away from people. Durability GE makes products that last!

Really Cleans

5

I purchased this washer because my Fisher and Paykel stopped working. I like the safety feature on this. If the lid is opened the agitator stops which is a good feature for people with children. The washer really gets my clothes clean and I don't have to worry about washing them over again.

Basic, gets the job done

4

If you're not ready to move onto a front loading washer yet, then this is a good choice. It gets the job done. My laundry comes out clean. I'm not quite used to washers being low flow and so quiet when it's filling up with water. I'm also very happy and impressed that it does run so quietly so I can do laundry late at night without disrupting the family. Clothes comes out clean. I haven't had to rewash or re-rinse things.

Love the Capacity of this washer!

5

This GE washer has gotten a bad rap over the past couple of years from consumers that typically are not following the guidelines for these type of machines. They REQUIRE HE detergent and must be loaded around the impeller. I can fill mine up to the very top and my clothes come out fine as long as I leave a small hole in the middle like there's an agitator there. I can fit an entire basket of clothes in one load and they come out clean and smelling great. If you don't have a manual, look online and find one so you can learn how to properly use the machine to get the best results. This machine is so quiet when it's washing. It took me awhile to get used to the weird robot type sound it made, but it is loud by any means , it would just catch me off guard when I would walk by the laundry room. The spin cycle is kind of loud, but it's not as loud as other washers I've used. Plus, the savings was actually noticed on my electric bill. Weird, I know, but it's true. I guess that's how much better this one is than my old one. I love this washer and don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.

HORRIBLE, do not buy!

1

I absolutely hate this washing machine! It is SO noisy, though in the FAQ in owners manual the only question that deals with noise is: "Is my washing machine on, I can't hear it working?" That is a joke! It is so noisy. Like a squeaky train! While it holds a lot of clothes, it does not get them clean! You can't put any clothes in the spot where the agitator is on normal top loaders, and you cannot over fill it, at all! The water levels only go up a few inches, so if you peak in at your clothes while they are washing, you will see that most of the load is not even submerged in water! Also, the style of button to start the machine is kind of this weird soft button. When I was buying it, someone stopped me and said that these type of buttons wear out. I bought the machine anyway, and sure enough, after about a year, it is wearing out. I have to press the button about 5 times before the machine will start. I'm afraid that soon I won't be able to get it to start at all! Please, do not buy this machine. It is not worth it! GE should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such a lousy product!

A Good Deal!

When our really old washer broke down, my family was in need of a washer fast, and we didn't really have the budget for one. So after I researched many reviews, I chose to purchase this GE Washer. The value can't be beat! It was one of he best rated ones with an inexpensive cost, which we were able to finance for a few months through the store we bought it from. I am a mom of 2 young boys, so I have lots of laundry to do, and I personally love these washers more than the newer ones where you have to bend down to the ground to open the doors. I have to say I was also impressed with all of the options that come with the washer. It has a king size capacity, extra rinse cycle if you want it, and options for casuals, cottons, easy care, delicates, and prewash! It's also energy star efficient! Our clothes always come out nice and clean! As far as the comments on the noise, I found this washer to be much quieter than my other one, but that is based on a much older washer I had. I don't know what the newer ones all sound like. There are times where the washer is very quiet, and other times during the cycle where it can get louder and I'm left wondering what that noise is I hear until I remember that I have the washer running. I'd say it's comparable to a dishwasher noise. Why does one need a super quiet washer anyways? We're so used to getting everything to our wanted desires but really is it something we need? In my case, I needed a dependable washer that gets the job done and doesn't cost a fortune. It's perfect for us! Energy Efficiency I can't say a notice much of a difference in our water or electric price, but then again, I am doing much more laundry these days as well. Cleaning Time There are many settings to choose from like Light - Heavy to allow for shorter or longer time of cleaning. Performance Still works great for us! Over time it has gotten a bit louder during certain cycles, but we don't care. It's never quiet in this house. Ease of Use Lots of choices - easy to follow - perfect. Design Designed like any other top loader, but the buttons are nicer and easier to handle. Durability Like I said, it's still holding up with no problems!

If It Works It's A Great Washing machine?

2

I purchased a GE washing machine model WHRE5550K2WW 10 months ago and it quit working already. I made an appointment online with GE. Folks PLEASE remember to register your appliances when you purchase them, if you don't you could be out of luck! The repair man came out 6 days later (that's the earliest appointment available). The whole inside part that turns the drum and the part that tells it to do that had to be replaced. He didn't have the parts on his truck because they are major parts and had to be ordered. They would be shipped to my house by FedEx and he would be back in a week to fix the washer! He came back and fixed it, it runs like a dream again. It's a great washer, cleans great, is energy efficient and is so quiet. But please, 10 months and it breaks completely and takes 13 days to fix!!!! I was also told by the repair man to purchase the extended warranty because these new machines with all the computers on them, they have more parts that will break. Energy Efficiency This washer has definely saved us money on electricity. We have a well, so electricity also pumps water from the ground. That's twice the energy for water use and to wash the cloths. We have seen a decrease in our electric bill since we've had the new washer. Cleaning Time This washer washes a load and gets it spun more than our old washer so drying time is shorter. You also have more selections to choose from for different clothing types. So my delicates have a very short wash cycle and my sons heavy muddy clothes may need an extra rinse cycle but not need to be washed twice, so I save on those loads. Performance This question is difficult; if your talking performace on a daily basis then it is a very good machine. It is very quiet, it gets the clothes clean, has alot of options such as an extra rinse, extra spin, and multi wash cycles. But as for performance over time, this machine is a bad choice. I explained my first go around after 10 months, I bought the extended warranty and now going on 21 months the grinding sound is coming back again and I can see signs of the same problem (clothes not coming out spun all the way out). Ease of Use You do have to read the directions for all the cycles. I just now found out that you had to turn a knob on the front when you used liquid softner! Also, You have to pay attention to the warnings given about loads and the maximum height. The machine is designed to hold a certain amount of cloths up to a certain height within the inside of the drum. Design I love the look of the ouside of the machine! The large tub does hold alot of clothes which is great if you have kids. Durability Buy the extended warranty if you have already bought this machine and don't let it expire and that is from the repair man who fixed mine after 10 months and will probably be back for a second repair soon!

The best washer I have had so far!

5

This is a great washing machine! I have three small girls under 10 years, one husband and a dog. So it gets used three times a day, 5 times on sundays. I am in love with the capacity! Its Huge! My favorite thing is it has a  infuser type agatator, so it fits alot of clothes. After it fills and if you feel there just isnt enough water for the amount of clothes you put in, you can 'reset' the cycle, and it will put more water in. Its great. It also has a setting for liquid fabric softener and extra spin, which is great so my dryer doesnt have to work as hard. There is also prewash, delicate, easy care , casuals, and cotton settings. Plus, six settings from cold to hot water. Alot of choices for any size a family. The noise that comes from it is pretty typical in my opinion. Not on the real quiet side, more on the medium noisy side. I wouldnt tell someone not to buy this washer based on the noise level it gives off. Its not that bad. Great washer for the price also. A great tip on washing clothes  to make sure they get really clean is to FIRST fill your water, put detergent in during filling. THEN place clothes in washer. I am telling you this works. I have noticed a huge difference in stain removal from our clothes. I am also using less detergent. Placing the detergent in the water before the clothes guantees that the detergent is distributed evenly throughout the wash.

GE Should be ashamed of this product

1

This washing machine does not properly clean clothes and is the noisiest machine I have ever had.  We wanted a high efficiency washing machine and needed a top loader and we picked this one without doing any research. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MACHINE!  Hopefully we will save someone from making the same horrible mistake we did buying this product.

This is an incredibly incompetent machine that GE should recall.

I only gave this machine 1 star because there was not a choice for '0'. This is the first review I have ever taken the time to write.   I wish that I had read the reviews before buying this in August or at least within my 30 day window, except I was too busy re-washing or ironing the clothes I attempted to wash and dry.  I take the clothes out of the dryer while it is still spinning.  The wrinkles that are in the clothes--which can't be shaken out--when they are removed from the washer can't even be completely eliminated during the drying cycle.  There is not enough water to effectively soak the clothes and the spin is so tight that I stop it about 3 minutes into the cycle and shake them out so that I can cut down my ironing time--even this doesn't eliminate all the wrinkles. Additionally, the clothes are not cleaned as well as I've experienced with past machines.  It was a mistake to try GE.
