GE Dishwasher worst dishwasher I've ever owned!

1

We moved from a home where we had a Bosch dishwasher &, I'll be honest, I thought that dishwasher was almost perfect. Sure, it could've been quieter, the cycles could've been quicker, but really we were pleased, even after owning it for 7+ years. Our new home was a builder's model home & came with the standard appliances. Even opening this GE dishwasher showed me how cheaply it was made. The door swung open & felt hollow, the racks were flimsy plastic & loose in their guides (later, multiple wheels on the racks fell off, some into the heating element where they melted!). Upon using this dishwasher, I saw that the performance matched the poor design. Food debri remains on more than half the dishes after a typical wash cycle. We've gone from putting almost any dish directly into the dishwasher to virtually pre-washing each item. In fact, this dishwasher is so poor that the residue left on our glasses was so thick & baked on, I had to just replace them. I disliked the performance of this dishwasher so much that we tried to replace it with the 7+ year old Bosch from our old home, but were unable to. I'm a very frugal person & typically would never replace something that wasn't in desperate need of replacing, but if given the chance, I'd get rid of this dishwasher in a heart beat for a different model! Noise Level Need to turn TV up in next room while dishwasher is running. Cleaning Time Average cleaning time Loading Flexibility Very little room & little flexibility...unless all you have are tiny dishes & glasses. Performance Have to pre-wash almost every dish. Durability All materials feel cheap - door feels very lightweight & hollow, trays are flimsy & are sure to break easily, wheels have fallen off trays (& have fallen onto the heating elements & melted!)

GE GLD5600R Built-in Dishwasher- Perfect for our family!

5

The GE GLD5600R built-in dishwasher has been a great buy for our family. We initially purchased this dishwasher because a family member was diagnosed with celiac disease and we needed a dishwasher that had the capability to sanitize; something our old dishwasher did not. Being able to sanitize our dishes has been really wonderful for our family. The sanitize cycle takes a long time and uses more power (understandably) but it is a very nice feature to have. We only use the sanitize cycle when we have to (when gluten has been present on our dishes, etc.) but for the vast majority of the time we just use the "light wash" cycle which is the shortest and uses the least amount of power and water. The "light wash" gets our dishes really well clean. We use Cascade Complete, which is recommended by GE for this model. We have never used a liquid drying agent though, and have never needed it. This model has a hard food grinder which is an essential feature on a modern dishwasher. This means we do not have to pre-wash any of our silverware or dishes before loading and running the dishwasher. This dishwasher is so powerful the pre-wash isn't necessary and if you read online, many articles will say pre-washing when using a modern dishwasher can lead to scratches on your glasses, etc. The only thing this dishwasher can't remove (so we pre-wash) are grits and artichokes. Everything else it removes completely and the whole load comes out sparkling clean and dry. I like the removable silverware rack and the optional basket for small items (like water bottle tops) as well. For not a lot of money this dishwasher really does the job well.

I like the GE 5600R dishwasher

This is my second GE dishwasher of this model.  At first, there were many problems with this dishwasher.  Everything from electronics to mechanical. I was pretty fed up.  After several service calls on my dishwasher, GE was contacted. After a few minutes on the phone, it was decided that the dishwasher should be replaced.  This is the best part.  GE Stands behind their product.  Just a few days later, I had a replacement dishwasher.  it was even installed for me.  Since then this Dishwasher has been purring like a kitty. No problems, just clean dishes.  Thanks GE!!

I will never purchase another GE dishwasher!!

When we purchased our new home it had a brand new GE dishwasher in it. It will be the first thing that I replace!! We have to start it several times to get it to run, which is frustrating for this busy mom of 5. I have better things to do than to keep checking my dishwasher to make sure it is still running. It cleans pretty well but not good enough to make it worth the hassle, I am about ready to just go back to washing by hand.
