When we purchased the GE 106733 electric griddle I was excited about the sear grill surface, however that quickly became my least favorite feature. Now I only use the flat griddle surface; usually for pancakes (I enjoy adding berries/banana with nuts or canned pumpkin with pumpkin pie spice in the fall). The Dupont Teflon non-stick surface works best when buffed with cooking oil while the surface is still cold. Because it is a non-stick surface only wooden and nylon utensils are recommended so the top doesn't become scratched. To clean the griddle, allow the unit to cool thoroughly and then wipe clean with a damp cloth before drying with a soft towel. If you have used the sear surface you may need to wash the top with warm soapy water to remove all the grease; don't let it soak in water, and do not let it air dry. The temperature control probe is removable and there is a grease channel around the perimeter of the griddle which directs grease into the removable grease tray. When I first used the sear grill it seemed to work fine. There is also a removable spatula rest which I never use, and the temperature thermostat dial seems to keep the heat accurately.
