It was the year 2000 and in a basement we have Lance Collins with experience in the world of beverages and Paula Grant with experience designing products. Enter businessmen Joe Rosamilia and Bruce Lewin. In 2001 Fuze Beverages was founded with no high fructose syrup and said to have health benefits.
A Closer View
I recently had my first two Fuze beverages. They were both delicious and each had their own ways to get healthy. Fuze makes a whole line of beverages. I had
Fuze Healthy Infuzions slenderize strawberry melon (to be reviewed) and Fuze Healthy Infuzions refresh peach mango which came in a beautiful 18-ounce glass bottle for $1.70. This bottle serves two but I can't imagine only drinking half so any information I give I have doubled.
My peach melon had 48 grams (24 per serving) of carbohydrates but since it had no protein don't consider this a meal replacement drink. It had 5% juice and 44 grams of sugar! That's a huge number. We should be getting preferable no more than 16 grams of sugar a day.
The peach melon refresh had 180 calories and a multitude of vitamins. You'll get 562mg of calcium "a mineral known to build bones, " 2800IU of Vitamin A for "vision, growth, skin, the reproduction system and the immune system," 16IU Vitamin C which is an antioxidant "essential for vision, growth, and healthy skin," 22mg Vitamin B3 to "improve circulation, healthy skin and the digestive system," 11mg Vitamin B5 "acts as a factor in metabolizing carbohydrates.....helps maintain the body's normal resistance to stress and promotes relaxation," 2mg Vitamin B6 "maintains sodium and potassium levels," and 6 mcg Vitamin B12 "known to assist in proper digestion.....and the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats."
Additional ingredients are filtered water, crystalline fructose, skim milk, apple juice concentrate, sugar, natural peach mango flavor, cream, lactic acid pectin, citric acid, sucralose, and beta carotene for color.
Fuze should be refrigerated after opening. I bought them both in the refrigerator section of the store.
Refresh seems to have health benefits if you look at the vitamins and minerals. I take a lot of supplements so I wouldn't drink refresh for that reason. If you don't then Fuze will get you healthier but the refresh line will give you a buzz as well. That may be good or bad. If you need a pick me up after the gym the refresh line is the way to go. Forty four grams of sugar is much more than you should have in one day.
My peach and mango Fuze had a very strong, delicious fragrance. It smelled just like peaches and mango both of which I love. It tasted just like peaches and mango so if you don't like these fruits you will not like this beverage.
Jo's Viewpoint
I like it in spite of the amount of sugar. Since it has so much and so many calories I would use it as a pick me up after the gym rather than a beverage I would drink while watching television.
