Green Giant Healthy Heart
One of the good things about being retired is that you don't have to go racing off to catch the bus or train every day. Except for occasional errands, appointments or shopping, there is no more commuting for you. That's the GOOD news. The BAD news is that you may be getting less exercise than you used to when your daily routine included rushing up the El steps to catch a train.
Don't get me wrong, I love being retired but I have also been trying to find light, lean options for lunch to accommodate my less active lifestyle. Here is one of the good things out there -- the collection of...

If you are someone who takes their lunch to work every day, you should consider adding these to your menu. These individual servings of frozen peas and carrots are very tasty. The butter and basil sauce had quite a bit of flavor so much so that it was almost too much as I took my last bites. The portion size was perfect for a side dish. Add to it that it earned a Weight Watchers endorsement and it's a big winner for being a healthy option as well.
As with most frozen meals, the heating was uneven in spots and the sauce outlasted the vegis, but overall this is a great addition to my lunch...

Lordy, Lordy... I love Pizza. But.. my doctor told me to lay off the frozen food. So, when it's "bad night" and we can have some yummy not so healthy food, it's time for an Amy's Spinach Frozen pizza.
Hells yes, this is some tasty pizza. I heat up extra sauce to dunk my pizza in because I love a lot of sauce.
The crust is crispy, the cheese is melty and bubbly, and the spinach is yummy with a hint of garlic- Go now and get one. Don't wait. Even if you don't like spinach or pizza (who doesn't like pizza!?!?!), go try it.
I promise you, you will be back for more!
Green Giant Rice Medley
Reprobate that I am, I probably never will give up meat and become a serious vegetarian. However, I am also a realist and so am trying to reduce my meat consumption even at dinner as painlessly as possible. If you feel as i do (or if you really are a vegetarian) then you might enjoy this delightful Green Giant Rice Medley which is a mixture of "gold standard" rice, peas and mushrooms combined in a delightful, albeit meatless brown sauce which tastes like beef stew without the beef. Savory flavor, luscious textures and satisfaction we have here in abundance -- enough to rival any steak.

I tried the Lasagne last night. All I can say is -- good thing I'm not cooking for a family. Very small portion. There are only two of us. I added some left over vegies and a salad and we made due. Good flavor, but I will not be buying it again.
New York Olde World Cheese Ciabatta Rolls
These are a step up from the regular garlic toast we have with pasta. Great flavor, easy to prepare.
The rolls come frozen in a box of six. There are two individually wrapped packages of three, in case you don't need all of them. Prep: throw on a cookie sheet, bake 5-7 minutes. I have also placed them on the rack of my convection oven for five minutes with great results. Would probably work on a grill too, though I haven't tried that.
Serve these any time you would serve garlic bread or garlic cheese bread.
Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash w/more vegetables
Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli is like the best lunch ever invented when I have no time and less cash to eat lunch at work.
YUM to the perfect ravioli sheets wrapped around the greatest butternut squash filling.
OMG to the delicious creamy sauce!
And HELLO THERE to the walnut pieces that spark up the veggies and taste of the whole dish.
I feel like someone from Top Chef created this delicious lunch.
Bonus? 350 Calories - 90% of your Vitamin A requirements - 6 grams of fiber
