Being a Verterinary Technician allows me to be able to get free products from Merial (makers of Frontline) and also Bayer (makers of Advantix).
Have 5 dogs - All large! Have tried both products and also seen the clinical testing. Both products boast about lasting for 30 days, being waterproof and eliminating fleas and ticks. Those things are true however I found that the Advantix does not allow for near as much biting considering that it is a "contact repellant " as opposed to Frontline. Consider the clinical trials - Both products tested- Both killed fleas, it took Frontline longer. Fleas and ticks were only affected by Frontline AFTER the bite. With Advantix being a contact repellant, parasites would completely avoid the pet/pet hair that was treated with Advantix. Also, when the parasites come into contact with the Advantix, it paralyzes them not allowing them to bite (in the majority of cases). So, if you have a pet with fleas allergies, do you want them to get bitten first? Or do you want the parasites to die before yoiur pet gets bitten? Why are we using Frontline, a product that allows our pets to still be bitten? So, ok...Frontline is killing fleas...but not before they have a free dinner on your pet!! How about skipping the Frontline and going to a product that does exactly what we want it to do. We not only want our pets to be flea and tick free, we want our pets to NOT BE BITTEN!! Just because your pet does not have fleas does not mean that they are not getting bitten by them.
