When Special Diet cats only eat dry - try Friskies

5

We have 4 cats: 2 are brothers and 2 are the sons of 1 of the brothers. They are all some fraction of Siamese. Eight years ago one of the brothers was hospitalized for struvite. He was a pretty sick fellow for a while. We had always fed them dry. The vet said that we should switch to urinary tract health canned and, for safety's sake (since they are all closely related), all of our guys should be fed the same. Oh boy! Canned-cat-food-for-cats had only been reserved for treat days. Now they got it every day, and like humans who suddenly have only cake at every meal - the new wore off that penny quickly. Begging under the table, never a problem in the once-in-a-great-while-canned-catfood days, became a common battle. Plates of canned catfood were consigned untouched to the trash. Finally, we switched our guys to Friskie's Special Diet Urinary Tract Health dry food. We were a little nervous but it turned out that the change was worth the risk. Our finicky boys were happy to get their dry food back. They still get canned, but 4 days of "Caturday" spread throughout the week is plenty. We added a couple of water fountains to entice them to drink more water. Since Friskie's Special Diet Urinary Tract Health dry food is low in magnesium, ash and taurine we have had no more problems with struvite in 7 years.

good for cats with bladder issues

4

I started using this cat food about 4 years ago when my male cat had multiple bladder issues .  It had started years ago when he was missing 12 days and had nothing to drink during that ordeal. He ended up needing bladder surgery and the vet recommended  very expensive, vet only foods which I bought for awhile . But the cost was prohibitive so I decided to research other pet store type foods that were cheaper and still fit the bill. I decided upon the Friskies Special Diet - this is specifically for cats with urinary problems, mostly males because of narrow urethras , who may develop stones  . It is low in magnesium which can cause the buildup and blockage . I have used it for all these years now and none of my three cats have had a single issue and they eseem to really like the taste , They hated the expensive vet food , by the way and it was a struggle to get them to eat it . Not good for what I was paying for that stuff . I did ask Friskies to send me a printout of the percentages of magnesium and other ingredients and they were not that far off from the vet RX food , so this is a good option of you can;t afford the RX food and your cat has bladder issues.

Great for my 'kids'

A few years ago my eldest boy came down with a horrible case of bladder stones and our vet recommended this horribly expensive food as the 'only' food he could eat afterwards. Well, I love my baby but my wallet is important too so I started looking for alternative foods that he could eat that were comparable to the expensive brand recommended. I checked out lots and lots of different brands and types of dry foods because they're the biggest foodsource for our babies. So in checking out brands I found that Friskies was one of the few major brands that put out a formula specifically for urinary tract health. It was also one of the few that gave a full percentage break down of all the nutrients and attributes. My vet and research told me that it was ash content that was most important for urinary tract health and Friskies was the only brand that was not only on par with the more expensive food but actually was better then what my vet recommended. Kudos to Friskies!
