Frigidaire Dehumidifier - FDL50S1 Review

We just bought an older house with a basement that smelled musty.  Before we moved in we removed the carpet, which turned out to be damp on the underside.  We also found evidence of previous plumbing leaks so we decided it would be best to try and dry out the basement before moving in.

We bought this particular size dehumidifier because of the manufacturer's recommendation for space, and I am very happy with the results.  We emptied the 50-gallon tank at least twice if not three times a day the first month we lived in the house!  We can tell a HUGE difference in the air quality downstairs - the dampness that pervaded the air when we first bought the house is gone.  Now I think the basement is probably the driest place in the house.  The best part is that the musty smell is completely gone - no more walking in the front door and being hit by that stale odor. 

The dehumidifier comes with a filter that really does a good job.  I let the filter go past its suggested replacement and I could tell a difference in the water clarity almost immediately.  Where we were dumping crystal clear water before, it became "dingy".  I receommend replacing the filter as soon as the warning light comes on.
