Faulty Controls?? Or Not Very Efficient!!!

I've gone thru THREE of these new units (Fridgidaire FDL50)  in the past month.  My units (all of them) turn on and run for 30 seconds to 3 minutes (after the humidity was reduced to the set point..45%). From that point on, I could here it turn on and run for a minute or so.. turn off for 3-5 minutes, turn back on for 20 seconds, turn off..  The same thing happening over and over.  I took the first unit back to the store and received a new one..  It did the exact same thing, so replaced again after talking to Fridgidaire.  The THIRD one is now doing the same thing.  Either there's a bad batch of them, or they are incredibly inefficient!! If you buy one, be sure to monitor what it's doing after a few days when the humidy is stabilized in your basement.

And another BIG negative is that they are NOT repairable. I found this out after talking with Fridgidaire. "The are too expensive to repair, so we just replace them"..  Wow.. Talk about NOT a GREEN company!!!   What a waste of new units!! Landfills, lookout.. I'm taking my money and running.. Additionally, it seems no matter what review one looks at, most brands of dehumidiers are NOT built to last.  It seems the newer ones last only 2-3 years..  :(

Say what??? So you think running the dehumidier continuously, which means the compressor is also running, for 6 months is efficient?? Goodness sakes!! That's why dehumidifiers have humidstats on them to monitor room humidity. When it gets above your set point, the unit should turn on to bring the humidity down again.. These units (or this batch!) has a serious flaw, in that they are not monitoring a thing. They just come on and off, on and off, on and off, running for less than a minute.

In Madison WI in summer you need to set it on 'continuous'. They all use much more energy if you don't. Run it on 'continuous' from March through Oct.
