The suspense and excitement just wasn't there.

I love a good horror movie, and enjoy the suspense of excitement of the original Friday the 13th movies, so I was excited to see the remake.  I was curious to see how they could improve on a 'classic' movie with all the technology available today.  It turns out, they didn't improve on it at all, and in fact they made it worse.

** There are no spoilers in this review!

I was so disappointed with the remake of Friday the 13th.  What I like most about the original Friday the 13th movies is the chase.  You know, the victims hiding in the woods, Jason stalking them with an axe in hand, and even though you know they won't escape, the chase is exciting.  There is NONE of that in the remake (except for at the end).  Literally, Jason walks up to a victim, he kills them, and he moves on.  BORING.

The classic Friday the 13th movies all have a little bit of nudity and sex, and there's really nothing wrong with it.  However, in the remake their is GRAPHIC (YES, VERY GRAPHIC) sex scenes.  The sex is laid out right in front of you, and there is a lot of female nudity and foul language.  While I may allow my 13 year old to watch a few of the original Friday the 13th movies, I would NOT permit him to watch the remake.  It's just too graphic and too over-the-top in the sex department.

Like any Friday the 13th movie, the ending is left open for the possibility of a sequel.  If another Friday the 13th is made, I know I won't waste my time watching it.  The only good thing about the new movie is that I didn't pay the money to go see it at the theater; luckily I had waited for the DVD to come out.  I wouldn't even bother getting the DVD if a sequel was released.  It was just that bad.

If you enjoy the classic suspense and excitement (and goofy acting) of the original Friday the 13th movies, save yourself the trouble and don't bother with the remake.

Great review! I've got to admit that I didn't think that even the Friday 13th original movies were as good as some of the other horror films out there but it seems like they have taken it all down a notch since then. When will they realize that remakes are not always good?

Chh chh ha ha, chh chh ha ha (camp camp blood blood). Those movies just freak me out in general. I would be digging my nails into someone's hands if I watched it.
