Freecycle is a Yahoo Group that is available around the world. In every community there seems to be a Freecycle group. Some are more active than others; some have thousands of members, some just a few. It is a way to give away things or to get things--completely for free. I don't know who invented this--but, boy, they were smart. I tell everyone about it.
I have given away things like a couch, a refregerator, a chair, a crock pot, a rice cooker, a dog house. I have gotten things like wedding champagne flutes, a twin bed, a rocking chair, I furnished much of a house, which we had not moved into yet, to accomodate a large group of relatives visiting.
It is helpful to have good transportation that can haul things and friends or family with muscle, if you are looking for the larger items. Sometimes people give away a bag or box of miscellaneous stuff and they say to take the whole thing, even if you don't want it all; just re-freecycle what you don't want.
I have shown up to pick up things and they are very dirty or broken (when I was not expecting that) and that's been disappointing, but nothing that a little elbow grease can't fix.
Overall, Freecycle is a great thing! It's an awesome way to reused things and keep things out of landfills and be economical.
