Freecycle Review Summary

Many individuals are developing an environmentally- friendly outlook and one web site that helps to encourage this trend is Freecycle.com, a community web site that encourages people to recycle ordinary goods by trading and/or giving them away to those who want or need them. Freecycle.com is a “Great Community Asset to Those in Need and Those Cleaning House” and reviews point out the ease of use of Freecycle.com and the fact that it ultimately helps the environment by discouraging waste. Most importantly, Freecycle.com helps out the local community by redistributing goods from those who have them to those who need them. For information on similar web sites, be sure to read reviews of other Community Web Sites and get involved in your local and world communities.

After my cat suddenly passed away, I went through my house to clean out and put away all of her things.  I knew that I would keep some items in case we adopt another cat someday.  However, my pantry held 2 dozen new cans of premium canned cat food that I didn't want to go to waste. … read full review »

While I think the freecycle idea is a great one, the fact that they've now set up a sister site for pet adoptions is very discouraging.  It's one thing to offer up a dog house, cat condo, etc., which they do allow postings for, but the people behind this latest site… read full review »

I'd be willing to bet you've got some things around the house, clutter piled in closets, packed in boxes in basements, attics, and garages that you don't want or need anymore, things you bought that looked better in the store, things your kids have outgrown, things you got as gifts that just aren't for you, etc, the kind of stuff that's good stuff that you can't bring yourself to throw away.  You don't want it to just go to the landfill, but you're a busy person and never seem to find the to have that yard sale you say every summer you're going to have.  You don't have time for… read full review »

I have been a member of FreeCycle for a couple of years now. The concept behind FreeCycle is that "one man's trash is another man's treasure," and since we all have things that we don't want or don't use and someone else might want or even need these things, why not give them to others who can use them? — — With FreeCycle, each area is allowed to have their own local group run through Yahoo Groups and if there isn't a FreeCycle group available in your town, you can start one. For those of us who live in rural areas, it is sometimes best to join more than one local group since… read full review »

I found freecycle on Yahoo.com many years ago and after finding it I did a search finidng other freecycle sites.  Not only does it help me get rid of household and clothing items I don't need by giving them to people who do need them but I've received many things that I needed and it's all for free! — — All you have to do is find the city closest to you, join the group and start reading what others have to offer and post your own items that you no longer need.  One of the good things about freecycle is there is no mailing involved since everything is local to… read full review »

Freecycle(TM) is an amazing concept that has grown so much in the last few years. Basically it is community orientated and there are groups all over the world. You join your local group and there you can find items that others no longer need as well as offer items that you might normally throw away. This not only helps to keep our landfills cleaner and save the environment, but it also helps others in need. —  The concept is simple, post a message to your local group with your item that you are offering. Other members contact you who are in need of this item and you set-up a… read full review »

Freecycle is a great place to get rid of your unwanted items and find stuff you might of been looking for ..But I can't belive what some of them ask for on mine they ask for running trucks or motorcycle.. But remember to becareful and always leave your stuff outside for them to pickup.. — And it's nice you dont have to deliver it or haul it any where..And if there not a Freecycle in your area start one, go to http://www.freecycle.org/startagroup/ —… read full review »

I am a member of freecylce.com and love it. I get things for my kids, and pets. I also get things that help needy families. Everyone should check it out! There is so much to see and do. My favorite thing with freecycle.com is the fact that you get to meet people in your area, that like the same things you do. It is a great way to make… read full review »

FreeCycle is a wonderful concept. Whether you have an excess of items you no longer need, or have just moved into new digs and have a limited budget for acquiring furniture, this is an excellent resource. — It does require joining your local FreeCycle e-mail list, but after that it's simple. Post the item you're offering or seeking, and then make arrangements privately for the transaction. Only free items are allowed; by FreeCycle rules no money can change hands. — I enjoy just seeing what kinds of interesting things are offered or looked for - Wooden dinosaur… read full review »

The Freecycle Network is a great place to join a group of people in your own community who, like all of us, have items in our homes that we need to get rid of, but don't want to throw away, or need to find items. Many members get and give items for so many reasons. Perhaps they are expecting a new baby, or children are outgrowing the items they have already. Some members have redecorated, moved or downsized and need to find new home for items. Others are just starting out and need items to furnish their homes. For whatever reason, Freecycle groups can meet the needs of those in our… read full review »

FreeCycle is a bunch of people around the nation who are grouped by location.  The purpose is to match items with need and prevent waste.  Think "one man's junk is another man's treasure".  Example - I have a dog house I no longer need.  I post it & a person needing a dog house emails me.  We arrange a pick-up time.  I get rid of my dog house, the person gets what they need for gas money only, and we save space in landfills. I actually posted a 'want' for a piano and received an upright grand piano.  My cost was time, gas money, and… read full review »

I am a member of 2 freecycle groups. I have found numerous items including just recently enough lovely tile to finish a shower and many books for my family to read and to share with others. I have also been able to pass on numerous items that I'd rather not see end up in landfalls, such as packing peanuts, and about 200 magazines. For the most part, people are friendly and honest, yet there will occasioanlly be someone who is nasty and rude. I just ignore those.... The concept is a wonderful alternative to throwing things away, or if you're not the yard sale type but want to shift some stuff… read full review »

What a great way to help our environment and each other! You can recycle things you don't need anymore without having to haul everything someplace. This is great for busy people who want to help out. You can make offers of things you wish to give and respond to people who wish to recycle things you need. — I have made offers and responded to offers, met several nice people, and only had a few experiences with people not showing up when they were supposed to. I feel great about being able to help others and very much appreciate the wonderful items I received and now use. — The… read full review »

I love freecycling. My community has an especially busy group and I usually only visit it lately when I have something that I want gone. Most people I have communicated with have been super nice and I feel really good after giving things to them.  Like when I gave our baby swing to this cute pregnant girl... or some old aerogrammes to kids in a homeschooling stamp club. But I do admit that I have picked up some really good stuff too when I have had the time to watch the posts and respond right away. You can't get your heart set on anything because most of the good items get claimed… read full review »
