I love free and I love brain stimulating fun. That’s why I love the free printable word searches from Livewire Puzzles. Livewire Puzzle, a home-based business in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has been making puzzles since 1979. They sell cool “wire disentanglement puzzles” but on their site they also offer free printable word searches and other puzzles. You can either search “Livewire Puzzles” or go www.puzzles.ca/wordsearch.html and click on “Free Fun.”

Under “Free Fun” you’ll see “Printable Word Searches.” They have a list of categories for adults that leave a hidden message when complete. The adult word searches include categories like old TV shows, songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, Shakespeare plays, Stephen King movies, Presidents and holidays. The kids selections have 20 words or less with no hidden message. Kid topics include trees, solar system, food groups, zoo animals and days and months, for example. Also under “Free Fun” you’ll see “Do-It-Yourself” puzzles that can be printed and cut out. There are only a few. These include a checkerboard, cross and some that create letters.

The site gives permission to print word searches and puzzles for personal use or to teachers for classroom distribution. My favorite teaching word searches are the days and months, solar system and food groups.

What I like to do with Free Printable Puzzles:

Roll them into a scroll and tie a little bow around them and add them to:

Easter baskets
Christmas stockings
Birthday party treat bags

Holiday and birthday spending can get out of hand quickly, I so I love to fill-in with freebies.

I also like to include them in cards for:

Birthdays
Shut-ins
Get Well

These are great to take to or mail to people who are in the hospital or shut-in at home recuperating. It also makes a nice “little something” to add to birthday cards.

I love to keep some in “the bag” for:

long car trips
long waits at doctor’s/dentist’s office
long waits in restaurants

As parents know, a busy kid is a happy kid and if they are busy doing some brain stimulating, I am a happy Mom too.

In this age of techno-communications, I know first hand that the young and older alike still enjoy getting personalized mail. As a teacher, I know that kids still enjoy good old-fashioned fun like word searches. If you’d like a good word search for yourself or to share with others, check out the “Free Fun” section at Livewire Puzzles.   Happy printing!
