What's the story:
Brad (Vince Vaughn) and Kate (Reese Witherspoon) are a young well-to-do couple that are cynical about marriage and have decided they really like just being a couple without the need for marriage and all the downfalls that go along with it.  Both sets of parents have divorced, and Kate and Brad have decided they don't want to "go there".  They come across to others as a bit shallow and all about themselves.  They haven't spent Christmas with their families in a long time; each year they take a vacation just the two of them.  They always come-up with a new excuse to give why they can't come home for the Christmas holiday.

This year the plan is to go to Fiji - unfortunately, weather is not on their side, and a bigger unfortunate problem lands in their laps when they are singled out by a news crew to explain why they are in the airport and what it does to their holiday and family plans.  Ooooppps!  They are caught and now unable to escape their obligations to their respective families.  Kate and Brad's phones start ringing - in a matter of minutes they go from planning a great island get-away to having to spend Christmas day rushing from not two, but four family functions - all in one day.

Their relationship is put to the test as they visit each of their families - each seemingly more stressful than the last.  They contend with the ghosts of their past and (what they thought and hoped buried) childhood issues, with nephews and nieces acting like (well, like children, of course), and falling back into the old fears.

There's always the stress of not seeing relatives for awhile, and how things change when you are away - or is it you who changes?  Either way Kate and Brad are in for some surprising facts about each other and about themselves.  The more embroiled in the family activities they get, the more they start having couple issues, which at first they brush off and pin all the problems on their families.  However, as the events unfold it becomes apparent that they have a lot to learn about themselves too.

Vaughn and Witherspoon are great paired together in this film, they really pull out the funny in the other. :)  So many moments you just think "OMG, I can totally relate to this".  Even if you stay in contact with your family, you always have things that are like: "Uhhh, no, really, I'm past that, let's move on," LOL.  Sometimes you think - what happened? How come I never noticed, or maybe you did and that's why you left, either way you can relate to the tense moments that are portrayed in a humorous way.

Take some time laugh at those moments - that when they are happening all you can think is GET ME OUTTA' HERE, or want to hide some where, but when you look back, there is some "funny" there somewhere.  Or maybe there's no funny, but Brad and Kate will make it funny for you.  A great break from the holiday stress.  Besides aren't you tired of those perfect Christmas movies?  Sometimes life isn't perfect, but you still have to laugh.

Ahhh, very wise idea waiting until you have made your own. I like to do that myself because then I'm not influenced to change something, LOL. ;-) That personal-mirror really fit me in this case. :) Thank you for reading and commenting.

Good job! I've seen a few of the ads about this movie on TV. Four Christmases looks funny. You've convinced me that this movie is more than laughs. Thank you for sharing. ;-) ~Krista Lynn

I just did a review on this movie so I didn't want to read yours until I posted mine. You did a really job and like me, tried to pull in some personal insight. This movie did well to teach us just how human we are and how much we all can improve when someone holds a mirror up to our face. Good job! ~Gigi
