I traded in my 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 off road series (step side), and almost immediately wished I hadn't. This is such a great truck for a multitude of reasons. The bed size is adequate for most needs, and my Ranger was an extended cab, so I could use the extension for groceries or whatever needed to be transported inside, and still had a truck bed in which to haul everything else.
It's a fairly comfortable ride, and the gas mileage wasn't too shabby with a toneau cover in place. It's important to use the correct sized tires on a Ranger, as the back end tends to be a bit on the light side.
This is the second Ranger I've owned. The first was an 86 that my father had bought brand new and gave to me in mint condition after 134K highway miles. I drove it for several more years and after it turned 200K I gave it to my brother in law.
I'm thrilled with this truck, at 107K it still looks fantastic, drives great and is stylish to boot. I've added the Volant cold air intake and noticed an immediate increase in off the line power. review »My daughter had a 2000 Ford ranger it was a awesome little pickup. it did not have alot room in the cab. But It was very good on gas, it was very stylish. You could still haul what the big pickups hauled. It was made tough my daughter was really hard on her pickup and it still ran. You could go so many places that a bigger truck could. I want to get one for myself but that will be awhile. They are pretty spendy. I would recommend this to anyone it holds it value and is very reliable. The Ford Ranger is number 1 on my list.
I bought a used 2000 Ranger XLT 3 years ago, with over 100,000 miles on it, and haven't had a problem with it. Runs like a champ!
