Awesome FoodSaver

5

Since becoming a new owner of the foodsaver you are not going to believe the amount of food that no longer goes into the trash. Yes, I have wasted a little of the plastic as I learned how to use, however, that is nothing when you think about the food that had been going to waste. Why I waited so long to purchase is beyond me.

A must have for us

I use my Vacuum sealer everyday. I have two this on and a newer one. The reason I have two tho the newer one has a stronger vacuum this older one is better for re sealing used bags. For example chip and cereal bags can easily be re sealed so they stay fresh. The steamer bags that frozen veggies come in can be used then if you don't eat it all you can re seal them, refreeze then steam them again. If you don't think you would use it to reseal then I would get the newer one because of it's stronger vacuum. I recommend getting the jar lid attachment. I have saved a lot of money using massion jars to store left overs and dry good in-sead of using the food save brand containers.

Great canning alternative tool.

I'm not a big fan of canning so I decided to purchase a Foodsaver as a way to freeze fresh fruits and veggies from my garden and farmers markets. First things first, read the manual! There is a reason why I had the issues I did when I first started using my Foodsaver -- I didn't read the manual. Don't worry, the manual is nothing overly-technical. It outlines how you should prep different types of foods before you start foodsaving. My first mistake was trying to vacuum foods with too much juice (fresh peaches peeled and diced) and I could not get the bag to create a strong vacuum. Of course after reading the manual it says that you should always try to feeze foods with a lot of juice before sealing. After freezing the peaches for two hours they vacuumed and sealed up with ease. Another mistake I made was not blanching green beans before foodsaving. It's not necessarily that its unsafe to seal unblanched veggies but in reality they just won't last as long in the freezer. It took some time getting used to how much space you needed at the top of the bag to get it to seal without wasting a ton of the precious (read: expensive) bag space but after a time you get the hang of it. Overall I really enjoy being able to freeze pounds and pounds of fresh fruits and veggies to serve my family over the winter. I've also found it handy for storing portions of meat that I get a great deal on but I may not be able to use it all before it expires. Just be mindful of the cost of the bags; I haven't tried reusing them yet but I may just attempt it to offset the cost.

Great product that allows me to seal things for my freezer.

I was given this as a wedding gift 4 years ago.  We have used the vaccum sealer every summer.  We go pick blueberries and strawberries at local farms and then we freeze them.  I like that the vaccum sucks all the air out between the berries.  It would be impossible to squeeze the air out using Ziploc bags.  Our berries stay nice and fresh.  We use them throughout the winter then to make smoothies.   My 2 year old son LOVE smoothies!

Seal the Deal--vacuum sealers rock!

Use this Food Saver Vacuum Sealer and start saving money.  Even items that absorb odors (like cheesecake) stay fresh and tasty in the sealed bags.  They are great for cooking your food--straight from the freezer. You can even re-use the bags (not after cooking in them or using them for raw meats). It's my favorite kitchen gadget.  I'm so glad that I have it.

Saves on our grocery bill

This is a great product! When we originally purchased our first FoodSaver, we got the V2040. It worked well, but then we received this upgraded version as a gift. This little kitchen appliance has saved us tons of money off of our grocery bills. We mainly use it for meat and other frozen foods, but it could be used for almost anything. Thanks to this sealing system, we can purchase all of our meat in large family packs and repackage it to any size portion that we want. My husband is an avid hunter, so we even use it to package up his fresh game meat. No more freezer burned meat. No more wasted food portions. The sealing bags are a little expensive, but only a small price to pay when compared to our savings. This model has variable settings (moist/dry foods, fast seal, etc), which allows for a perfect seal. We have had a few minors issues with this model, but nothing too serious. For some reason, very occasionally it doesn't seal all the way across the bag and we have to reseal it. And if you seal too many bags in a row, it will alert you and not allow for further sealing until it has cooled down - frustrating sometimes, but no big deal really. Thank you FoodSaver - don't know what I'd do without you!

Food saver is a meal and time saver!!!

So worth the money!! I cant say enough good things about my food saver! From keeping foods from getting freezer burn to keeping important documents clean and safe! I buy my red meats and chicken products in bulk then divide it up when I get home and food save away! It saves me a ton of money and cuts back on left overs and waste! You can marinate your meat in the sealed tight bag for an amazing flavorful dinner, wether you store it in the freezer or just marinate it for the day! It will taste amazing!! We recently went on a family vacation and space in the ice chest was limited. I put some steaks and marinade in one saver bag and marinated chicked and vegetables in another. Dinner for those two nigths was a breeze! Took the bags out and bam dinner was on the grill! I have food saved fresh fruit put it in the freezer and took it out months later to serve at a bbq and it was just as fresh as the day I bought it! My friends were amazed that I had such fresh fruit given it was not in season at the time. The bags for it can be a little on the pricey side when you have to replace them but the aftermarket (generic) brands have worked just fine for us! If you forget to take dinner out of the freezer to thaw one great thing about the food saver bags is you can fill your sink with warm water drop the frozen saver bag in and about 10 minutes later it is completely thawed without losing any of the freshness or flavor! It has definately paid for itself several times over and I do not regret this purchase one bit! It is not a kitchen appliance that we bought used it once and put it in a cabinet! I use it weekly. If I am traveling away from home I can cook all the meals for the week for my family in one day food save them all and dinner for the week is done! They pull out what they want to eat and enjoy! It is not messy and anyone can use it. This is a definate kitchen must have item!!

Homemade t.v. dinners made easy!

I use my vacuum sealer often. My favorite usuage of the sealer is freezing homemade dinners, recooking them and still having the great fresh taste, as if it was just made. Vegetables last almost twice as long and frozen meat doesn't leak.

We got our foodsaver last year for Christmas as a gift to eachother.  We grow a garden in the summer, and have a lot of fruit trees in our yard.  A lot of it went to waste the year before because we couldn't eat it in time, so we got the foodsaver hoping to fix that.  It works great! We blanched zuchinni and ate it a few months later and it tasted very good!  We also froze a bunch a strawberries that we are still eating.  We use our foodsaver most with meat, and it does a very good job.  Keeps the food fresh.  My parents use theirs often, and will season the meat, then freeze it and it holds the flavoring extrememly welll! They also cook all their hambuger and then freeze it which does well, but my hubby perfers to have it freshly cooked, not cooked than frozen. I have seen some items get ice crystals in them if stored for a very long time, but I haven't yet ran into freezer burn.  I used the Foodsaver bags at first, but foudn some offbrand bags online that seem to work just as well, and don't hurt the pocketbook so much.
