My mother never used anything when she cooked... which I think is a big part of why I incorporate so many of them now into the meals that I prepare.

What are your top 5 spices besides salt and pepper?

Wow, I haven't been to this thread in a year.  I've grown.  I now use fresh tarragon, basil, dill and Goya Vegetable seasoning in addition to Montreal Steak Seasoning.

1.  Paprika, I really love it on pork and lamb.

2.  Garlic powder is versatile.

3. Chili powder, to spice up beefy soups, Spaghetti and Tacos, dishes.

4.  Mustard powder, use it on chicken, lamb and pork along with other spices, it is also tenderizer.

5. Onion powder in many dishes.

We have lots of spices in our household but the top five would be

Garlic Salt/Powder

Chili Powder all kinds

Cumin

Lawrey's Seasoning Salt

Italian Spices

Great Topic and Question and harder than I thought to pick five.

It's not a spice but rather a sauce.  I have fallen in love with the white sauce at Tokyo Grill and Hibachi Express.  Some people are saying it's a shrimp sauce.  I found the recipes for both restaurant sauces online and I love them and now I am always making it.  I dip chicken nuggets in it and put it on fried rice.  Yuuuumy!
