Whew! It's already Nov. So - what are the Thanksgiving plans, and what's on the menu?

Recipes welcome!

I plan to spend Thanksgiving with my son and his family so the menu is the decision of my daughter-in-law. She is a wonderful cook. There is ususally a turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, collard greens, macaroni and cheese along with biscuits. I usually bring some sort of side dish which can be anything from a vegetable or fruit plate, beverages or dessert.

Whatever we have to eat it is always great to spend time with my son, his wife and the grandchildren.

Since it is just my husband and my two kids (all our families live up north), we have started the tradition of having cornish hens at Thanksgiving. My son gets a kick out of eating his own 'bird' by himself. We also have:

Stuffing

mashed potatoes

sweet potatoes

corn

corn bread

cranberry sauce

a veggie platter appetizer

crackers and cheese and pepperoni appetizers

pickles

apple pie

low fat pumpkin pie tartlets (this will be the first year I make these)

I know I'm missing something...just can't think of it right now, lol. We all leave the table with happy bellies anyway and graze on veggies or cracker trays throughout the day.

We have decided to treat ourselves this year and go out to Maggiano’s Little Italy, they are butting on a seven course spread.   And Maggiano’s Little Italy is a primo place to eat, chain, but not a chain.   Even better, I don't have to cook!

Yikes. Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away.  Where did 2009 go?

Given the two facts that I'm not a great cook and that my mom is not well, I seriously doubt that we'll do anything special.  Last year we were invited to our neighbor Elena's Thanksgiving dinner, which was nice, but with the economic downturn and everyone watching his or her budget, it's not really likely that there'll be a repeat.

Turkey, ham, sweet potatoes,  green salad, stuffing, mac and cheese, gravy, and lots of pie, and cakes.

Usually we have turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, ham, olives, pistachio pudding, spicy green beans, dinner rolls and too many desserts to name but this year we are doing something different and going to my fiance's father's house in colorado. Unsure what they will make but we are bringing the pop and some wine. We can't really travel 9 hours with a dish in the back of the truck. lol

My contribution to our family's Thanksgiving table will be a sugar free cheesecake for my Dad who is a diabetic. I am also making a new recipe with broccoli, bacon, raisins and peanuts. I had it once before and remember it being delicious! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
