Maybe you knew. Maybe you didn't beforehand. But, you've probably eaten something that still makes you shudder or smile.

What's the oddest thing you ever ate?

What did you think of it after?

It may not sound odd to some, but alligator was definitely the oddest.  I am pretty willing to try new things but when it gets gross, I draw the line.  I couldn't comprehend eating intestines, brains, eyes, fish heads, that sort of thing.

I didn't know I was eating alligator until after I tried it.  I was told it was chicken. It did taste a little like chicken.  It wasn't that bad at all.

My dear sister talked me into eating live ants in the back yard when I was a kid.

Won't do that one again.

Truly I never have - I won't even eat mystery fish but I have to share my husband's culinary taste - anything. He WILL try anything once -eel; buffalo; alligator - get the pic? Oh and the buffalo was the worst because he really doesn't eat meat.

It was some time ago,but it was brain. The restaurant cooked it well, but when I tried to cook it,it turned mushy and too soft.lol.

Could I say the most unusual thing I ever DRANK?  When I was a little kid, Grandpa Fiske suffered from terrible arthritis.  Orthodox medicine couldn't help much back then but Grandpa found a folk remedy which had worked for someone else and seemed to work for him -- a shot of whiskey mixed with raw horseradish!   It wasn't bad either and I should know because one day when Grandma was out of the room, Grandpa shared his remedy with me!  I've got to say that it tasted pretty good!

Most disgusting - fried blood, fish eye
Most weird - eel, iguana

I like my normal food, but I blame my sister for dragging me to some weird places. Heck, I remember eating shark in an Australian restaurant in Holland!

I onced worked with a gal from China who sometimes brought in food they imported from China. One day she had crackers and offered them to everyone. No big deal huh?  Well they were fish flavored crackers - they tasted horrible - like a smelly fish.
The most ''exotic'' food I had was in France where we somehow got horsemeat for dinner. I mostly remember it was very tough. We galloped out there pretty fast.

Rattlesnake on a trip to Arizona.  Wasn't bad.  And ate shark in Barbados.  Wasn't bad either.  In both cases of the aforementioned creatures, I much rather be eating them, than have it the other way around.

When my husband and I were on our honeymoon in the Bahamas, we were taking a boat trip and running late. I hadn't eaten so I grabbed a "banana" from the breakfast buffet in our hotel. When it came time to eat my "banana", I unpeeled it and took a bite and immediately made a horrible face and spit it out in a napkin. I was actually eating a PLANTAIN which is sometimes referred to as part of the potato and pasta family in the Caribbean. ICK

Mine isn't really all that weird but when you are expecting something to taste like one thing and it tastes completely different, it is awful!

Worms. Not the live kind, mind you- the worms found in the bottom of a bottle of tequila. But to add to the disgusting factor, I was required to chew them up, as part of the contest sponsored at a local tavern back in my college days.

I don't think I've ever eaten anything really gross or strange.  My husband cooked up the cat food that I had in the fridge the other night (ground beef with organs) but luckily I discovered that little mistake before he actually served it to me.  It looked pretty good cooked up with garlic and onions and I probably never would have noticed if I didn't see the package of ground beef still sitting on the shelf in the fridge.  =)

It would have to be "SMOKED EEL".  I'll admit, I had been drinking or I never would have tried it. It was chewy, gooey, smoky and NASTY!! I wouldn't recommend it. I'm surprised I didn't throw up..LOL.

I've eaten alligator, shark and horsemeat before.  I didn't know what I was eating at the time but I trusted my Dad and they weren't half bad.  As a little girl in Germany I was given chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers.

One of the local farmers' markets has a night market during the summer -which is basically a food and drink festival.  My in laws were visiting us in here in Australia and my husband ordered a taste of Oz platter for everyone to share which included: kangaroo steak, emu sausage, and crocodile.  It was all very tasty!  I also had rabbit kidney once.

I went to a neighborhood party when I was a teenager. My dad said to me "Try some of this BBQ chicken", and of course I did. Needless to say, it was not chicken. I was eating deer meat. It did taste like chicken. All I could think for years was I ate Bambi. To this day, I don't look at chicken the same way.

I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to trying new foods. Most of those listed here have crossed my palate with varying degrees of success. But fo me the oddest was fried puffballs. If you have ever walked through the woods in the Fall and stepped on a roundish thing that bursts and spews out a cloud of dust,, that is a puffball.

My first year in college I had a friend who had an uncle that taught there. The family spent their summers in the woods trying to live off the land. I was invited to partake of a few of their treasures. One was this fried puffball. Of course I ddn't know what I was eating until after trying it. It reminded me of a fried green tomato as I ate it, but when I was told what it was all I could think of was that cloud of dry dust spewing out. I drank a lot of water that evening.

My most unusual drink was a bottle of tomato wine from the Amana Colonies in Iowa. Tasted a lot like chewing a green tomato.

I can't think of one weird thing I ever ate. I rarely ate as a kid and was really picky about what I did eat. Now, I stick to what I know and have no desire to try anything weird or different. I once was tricked into eating venison but I can't imagine that is too weird. I was told it was beef which it did not taste like at all and I only had one bite and knew something was off. I also ate hamburger and rice wrapped in grape leaves from the backyard often because my mom made them and I thought they were really good. I suppose eating cooked leaves from the backyard is sort of weird but they were common in my household. I did pass on her cooked dandelions, however.

Unless eating a family sized box of stale Jujubes all in one sitting is weird, I don't think I ever ate anything crazy or gross (in my mind anyway). I should branch out a little, eh?

I was in NYC last weekend and I was sitting in Grand Central Station waiting for my train to come in. I saw a nice little chinese food place in the corner of the dining concourse. It was buffet style so I went over and said "I'll take this, that one, and I dont know what that is but I'll take that too." The "I don't know" item was stir fried tofu. By far the strangest thing I've ever eaten. The texture was like that of chicken but it tasted like beansprouts.  I dont know if I'd eat it again but, it wasn't that bad.

Back in the 90's I was in the military and on temporary duty at Kunsan Air Base, Korea.  The leaders of the class I was taking took us all to an authentic Chinese food place just outside of town.  I'm not talking about the "Chinese" food we get here in the states, I'm talking about the stuff they really eat in China.  We paid 13 bucks a piece and they had the folk prepare and bring us sampler platters of about everything in the restaurant.  Most of if was kind of raw or stank or had tentacles or all 3.  I had about 2 bites of food and I still, to this day, have no idea what I ate, just that I HATED it.....I must have been good to some, cause a few of the folks dug right in.  I went home hungry.

We call those things "MAY POPS" down here in Alabama..LOL!! I have never thought about ever eating one, but I love a fried green tomato so I might give'em a try.

I love Tofu. You can make it taste like so many different meats depending on the way you cook it, plus it's good for you.

I MAY have eaten something weird this weekend. My husband has an employee who is from Korea and he and his wife were throwing a big 1st birthday party for their daughter. They had all hand made traditional Korean food and it looked fantastic.

One item was an egg roll type thing, maybe more like a spring roll. I couldn't resist and so I took a bite and it was very good. I ate one and then I asked the wife what was in the egg roll. She said vegetables and "traditional Korean meat." Um...

I started wondering what traditional Korean meat was but didn't want to press because the proud parents were busy. As we went to leave, I said to my husband's friend that the food was delicious and I especially liked the little egg rolls. He said that they were the kind he ate as a child and he had the ingredients sent to him by a relative in Korea (or something like that, hard to understand him). I said that I knew there were vegetables but what was the meat? He just smiled and said, "That's a Korean secret. It's good for you."

Um...WHAT DID I EAT? I still don't know. Maybe I don't wanna know. We have five more here that they gave us to take home but I think I'll pass. lol.

I ate squid by mistake once and it was disgusting.  It was at a chinese restaurant in Amsterdam and was mixed right in with the stir-fry.  After chewing forever and finally swallowing it (ick) I had to ask what it was and will never ever eat it again.  I would never last on the reality show Survivor!

As a really young child I ate some of a Top Choice dog patty.  You know, those pressed dog foods that look like hamburger?  Well, before we knew it was unhealthy my siblings and I used to love to eat raw hamburger meat wit salt and pepper.  Just a bite, nothing big.  Well, one day I came in and saw what I thought was a hamburger patty on a saucer.  I pinched off a good chunk, put S&P on it and began eating it.  My mother came in and wanted to know what I had in my mouth and I told her hamburger and pointed to the plate.  She freaked out; screamed for my dad and 'bout had a coronary.  Everyone else thought it was hilarious; except for me.  Once I realized what it was I began puking my guts up.  Maybe that's why I became such a picky eater.

In recent years I ate a frog leg at a chinese restaurant just to tell my best friend I did and to get a rise out of her.

I also went to a festival and my Daddy encouraged me to eat alligator.  It did taste like chicken.

When I was in 3rd grade my best friend saw a big brown thing on her dresser.  She thought it was chocolate, picked it up and bit into it and screamed.  She had eaten part of a dead cockroach--yikes!!

When I was a little girl I was tricked into eating chocolate covered baby grasshoppers at school. Hey it was one of my trusted pals and it was a cube of chocolate.... chocolate!

Since then I think the weirdest for me would be escargot and the octopus tentacles.
