It seems like people either love it or hate it (or are just plain scared to try it). Which are you?

I love it!

I've never had it but recently decided I would give it a try when my chef friend told me that sushi doesn't mean raw fish.  I think many people may think the same as I did and think all sushi is about raw fish.  It just turns out the sushi I had seen at events was always raw fish :P

Anyway, so we talked about going to a sushi place sometime to try some veggie sushi :)

I like it.  I used to eat many of the raw things, but these days I seem to stick to shrimp tempura rolls, yellowtail rolls, sweet potato rolls, and pepper tuna.  I enjoy sushi but I have to really be in the mood for it.

I know this might burst a bubble, but yeah, sushi is mostly about raw fish, rice and seaweed.  Sashimi is completely about the raw fish.

I became a sushi/sashimi lover relatively late (in my 30's).  My daughters started much younger (around 8 yrs).  I think you may be pleasantly surprised to find you really enjoy both of these.

MMM I love sushi. Yellow tail when it is good its like butta. I also like smoked salmon, crab, and eel. There are others. Many (other than yellow tail) that I like are cooked but served cold (except for the eel which is served hot). I was pleasantly surprised when I found 2 really good sushi restaurants here in the middle of SW Michigan.  Yummm

I used to loathe the taste of seaweed. I decided to try it again and was OK with it, so now I am a big fan of sushi. I didn't have a problem with raw fish (as long as it was safely prepared), but the seaweed tasted like low tide smells to me. I like any kind, but have yet to try eel. i can't get past that it looks like a swimming snake, so i can't eat it.

My husband will only go the California Roll route, but he swore he would never try any form of it, so that's a win.

I enjoy sushi. I like to try different rolls but I pretty much stick to the same thing, tempura roll and rainbow roll.

Trust me on this one.  Order an Eel Hand-Roll.  You'll be hooked for life.

I lived in Japan for a while and loved it there. Not so much in the U.S. Then again, I live in an area where we do not have many choices and foods are changed up so much that they do not reflect the real deal.

All right, Rudi... this will be my weekend for the swimming snake. It doesn't take much to talk my husband into going to Fuji (the restaurant).

LOL  What drives me nuts is every restaurant when you ask for sushi- it is totally different what you get offered.

Technically Sushi is the slab of fish on rice, right?

Well, every single restaurant has different names for it and what you get is all a huge variety of weird stuff.

We love sushi, sashimi, and rolls.  In fact, I recently made a rice free nori roll that was fantastic.

My entire family loves it, but when my mom finds out she freaks- she can not believe we allow our family to eat such horrible things.

HAHA

From my limited sushi experience, the roll is the kind with rice on the outside and the seaweed and stuff in the middle. Sashimi is usually really thinly sliced fish and the pieces are kind of big, and a hand-roll is big enough you hold it in your hand and the outside is seaweed. I have seen some kinds where there is a cube of rice with a piece of fish on top. IDK what that is.

RudiXeno probably knows all these answers. But that is my knowledge of sushi.
