From grade school through my early teen years, my family and I were insane about these little crispy Chocolate cookies by Nabisco, I think they were called Chocolate Snaps.

They came in a little box and  the cookies on the box were decorated with little cookie Cat or Bear faces drawn on them.

Only a few stores in Detroit sold them and only in the two flavors that I'm aware of.

A deep dark chocolate crispy cookie that tasted like a delicious fudge and a chocolate chip that was equally good!  but the dark crispy chocolate was my favorite.

Oh..How I long for these simple little cookies that carried such big bold flavors, I'll never forget them!  So wished I had some today, I don't think these are made any more.

A box of Barnum Animal crackers...hands down :)  I actually have the dish set now with a cup and plate.  I keep it as a collectible.

And yes, I still treat myself to a box on occasion, and I still save the box with the string that I use as a little "purse", like from when I was a kid ~  only they're not 25 cents anymore.

Sometimes out of the blue I get a craving for a Snickers bar. I really loved the old Coke Slurpees but we don't have them here. ICEEs are hard to find. I am a frozen drink and popsicle addict. I will eventually succumb to brain freeze.

There was a time when adults wouldn't drink ICEEs because they were considered children's treats. I used to audit department stores all over Texas and when lunchtime came around I would go to the food court wherever I was with some of the managers. I always ordered an ICEE as my drink. At first I got strange looks. After awhile, all of them were drinking ICEEs and loving it. That's been my great contribution to mankind.

I still eat Sweethearts and pretend they're illicit pills. I haven't really matured very much and I'm not really trying very hard.

Now that's hilarous RAF ~!  heck, I think we used to put illicit stuff on our Sweethearts. J/K

ICEE's ~ I forgot about those, probably because I drank them so fast and they gave me such a horrible headache.  But I always seemed to give in and buy the coke-flavored ones, the cherry ones were the grossest...IMHO  I wonder if they had ICEE's anywhere else but here?

And if I found an old, "vintage" ICEE machine, with the Polar Bear, I think I'd buy it.

Yeah, us Texans can be weird :P

I bet they don't have that weird stuff in Detroit, Vetsy.  Ya'll had dark choco cookies?  I don't remember those here.  I guess it was a regional thing.

I have a few. In Astoria, we had a friend,Leo, who owned a place on the corner of Steinway St. & Broadway, where he made the best knishes and real egg creams. Further down the street Jenny made my favorite pizza. I miss that pizza and those egg creams the most!

I grew up in Boston's Italian neighborhood known as the North End, there was a corner candy store named Charlies whos owner (Charlie himself) made the most delicious Italian ice flavored with real granular sugar and fresh squeezed lemons. It was the most refreshing thing to enjoy on a hot summer afternoon in the city. I'll never forget sitting on the stoop with my best friend while we slurrped the icy mixture to see who'd get a brain freeze first, ahhh the fun we had and our brains are none the worse for it, I think :)

My grandmas oatmeal scotchies!!!!! Mmmmmmmm! They were so wonderful! Made with love! She could make them taste the same each and every time! That ability and talent passed when she did! I tried but could not make them like she did.

I have two favorites.  The first was lemon cooler cookies that were coated with powdered sugar.  Those were so cool!  (and messy)  lol!

The other treat I loved and still do is boiled peanuts.  We used to get these fresh from a farm and boil 20-50 lbs at a time and put them up in the freezer.  That was always the best medicine for a sore throat come winter.  Take out the boiled (salted) peanuts!

I know what you mean. I try to put away the Sonic blue-freeze things but the pain in my head and back is extreme. It must be age related. Still, it sounds pretty good right now. Maybe I'll try again on the way home.

I think the key to the ICEE's is the tiny little straw-spoon. It makes you go slower.

How could I forget, I was practically addicted to PEZ candy as a kid, not sure I'd want any now though.

That is very interesting boiled  peanuts for a sore throat, I got to try that. When my sister moved to South Carolina she told me about the boiled peanuts and how good they were, but I never had the opportunity to try them.

I used to love "Fun Dip" which was basically Sugar on top of sugar on top of sugar.

I am going back to RI this thanksgiving and I am going to have me some Coffee Milk. Eclipse coffee syrup and milk. I am also sending a jug of the syrup back to Iowa. Only in Little Rhody.

I wish they still made Gaucho cookies. They were a peanut butter sandwich cookie... so good.

Another thing I miss was sold at the Sears candy counter. I don't know the name of them but they were a hard, black licorice button.

We used to go to the "Goody Shoppe" and get cherry phosphates. I think they were just cherry syrup and seltzer. The kid would pump some syrup in and then the seltzer and it was great! I always had him cut the syrup in half because I really just liked the fizz. Now I drink seltzer with lemon or strawberry flavor but no sugar. It is NOT the same at all.

I also really miss my mother's rice pudding with raisins. I didn't like it it when I was young though. I used to eat it sometimes, picking out the raisins and not letting her put cinnamon on it. Now, if I find good rice pudding (very rare), I want the cinnamon and raisins in it. But my mother had a special touch and nothing tastes as good as she made stuff taste.

And there is a Lebanese pastry that my mom and aunts made. Oh it was sooooooo good. It as very thin, flaky pastry crust stuffed with chopped nuts and all kinds of sweet things. Forgot the name of it but I have never found any since and I can't even look it up since I can't remember the darn name of it!
