McDonalds Southern Style Chicken Sandwich

McDonalds Southern Style Chicken Sandwich
a casual cook, practical, Chicken Connoisseur, fast food junkie, First-time mom

MAY

2008
Today McDonald's was giving out their new Southern Style Chicken sandwich, which is a Chick-Fil-A knock off, for free if you purchased a medium drink. In my opinion, this is probably the only way they will get you to eat it! I am probably being a little on the unfair side, because I am comparing this sandwich to Chick-fil-a's original chicken sandwich, but it is a blatant knock-off, so why not. If you are going to copy the best, then you better do a good job, and McDonald's falls flat. They even copied the chicken biscuit for breakfast. — — In the pictures of this sandwich, it… read full review »

Klondike Slim a Bear No Sugar Added Bars-Vanilla

Klondike Slim a Bear No Sugar Added Bars-Vanilla

We've had some pretty hot temperatures here in southern Louisiana and that means a nice cold treat is in order for those long and hot summer days.  One of the favorite ice cream bars here is Klondike Slim a Bear No Sugar Added Bars.  It has a low sugar content and it is one of the treats my husband, who is diabetic can also enjoy if he has followed his diet closely for the day. — — Klondike Slim a Bear No Sugar Added Bars — — Klondike Slim a Bear No Sugar Added Bars come 6 bars to a package.  They retail for $3.99 a box but coupons are frequently… read full review »

As a consumer, and overweight individual I have a small and healthy bit of information which I read recently in a popular news stand magazine regarding HFCS (more commonly referred to as: High Fructose Corn Syrup) that is an ingrediaent found in many household food packages which aids in weight gain (this is where SIZE does matter). Why is HFCS so important to talk about and be aware of? Because High Fructose Corn Syrup is SUGAR and no amount of counting calories, watching Carbohydrate intake, drinking gallons of water, and exercising a minimum of 20 - 30 minutes a day is going to be enough… read full review »

Sweet 'n Low

Saccharin was originally marketed as Splenda is nowadays. Then there were news of rodent studies that showed that it was not all that healthy. Equal is a brain toxicant nevertheless. Sweet n Low is not a better substitute for your sugar needs. back to Saccharin it is still on the market because sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks or hazards to your health. Put the two together and you have a bad… read full review »

It is delicious, because why should a salad be boring. Just watch out for that dressing and those calories! It gives you the required serving of vegetables by the lettuce and your protein (chicken) what else could you ask for? Firday's is a great place for even the healthy category of food. This salad 's name says it… read full review »

FUZE Slenderize is the best fruit juice product around.  I do wish there were more flovors to choose from and that more stores would carry this product.  It's a tad expensive, unless of course, you're like me and surch the ads for sales.  I love the Fruit Punch Flavor and I can't seem to keep enough of this drink in my home.  Healthy and great for the taste… read full review »

Peak Bar - Organic Brownie

Peak Bar - Organic Brownie
trying to pick healthier foods, a picky snacker, Chocolate freak

MAY

2008
In my  quest to find a chocolate snack that's not too high in fat, and is actually sorta, kinda good for me, I bought one of Peak Bar's Organic Chocolate Brownies. The label calls it a "Women's Health" product, and describes it as "bakery style." I have no idea what makes this product one geared towards women and, unless they're referring to mud bricks dried in a kiln, I can't imagine a bakery serving anything of this particular "style."  In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize this product has a lot in common with masonry: it certainly looks like a mud… read full review »

MAY

The Kraft Company has come up with another healthy alternative which doesn't taste "healthy" but really is ... South Beach Living Four Cheese Pizza with Harvest Wheat Crust.  This is a "thin crust" pizza topped with a tasty tomato sauce and generous helpings of reduced fat Mozzarella, Parmesan, Romano and Asiago cheeses.  This is tasty and rich, but not overwhelming.  — This six-inch (personal sized) pizza constitutes one serving which contains 340 calories with 100 calories from fat.  There are 11 grams total fat, four and a half grams saturated fat, zero… read full review »

Amy's Enchilada with Black Beans and Vegetables

MAY

The variations on an enchilada theme seem to be many and inspired for the creative crew at Amy's Kitchen, Inc.  Although I must admit that Amy's Enchilada made with Organic Tortillas, Black Beans and Vegetables is not my personal Amy's-related favorite, I will say that I enjoyed this dish and that it is will made.  It is a vegan dish which is also non-dairy and gluten free which could be very important to some enchilada lovers out there.  — A 9-1/2 oz. package delivers two enchiladas or servings, each containing 180 calories with 50 calories from fat.  There are six… read full review »

Progresso Panko bread crumbs

Progresso Panko bread crumbs
wine lover

MAY

2008
I always avoided breaded foods because I couldn't stand the soggy, greasy texture, until my husband and I read about Panko crumbs in Cook's Illustrated magazine. Our local grocery carried Progresso panko crumbs in two flavors, and I couldn't believe the difference it made- light, crispy- I'll never go back to bread crumbs again. I'm enjoying all kinds of things I avoided- cutlets, fried trout, etc.-I recommend it… read full review »
