Folgers Simply Smooth —

I have to admit that my taste in coffee is not very discerning.  I do enjoy my morning brew, but unless it tastes like motor oil, I'm not terribly picky.  I had used Folgers coffee for years when my tummy began to rebel at my morning routine.  Luckily for me, Folgers added a stomach-friendly coffee to their line of classic and coffeehouse varieties. After I saw the commercial for Folgers Simply Smooth, I put it on my shopping list for my next trip to the grocery store.

Folgers makes this version of coffee from a special selection of beans that are somehow roasted to reduce the irritants that are common in most coffees.  If you have a sensitive stomach or ulcers you know all too well how that second cup of coffee is enough to push your belly woes over the edge.

I measured and brewed the Simply Smooth in the same way that I do for the regular Folgers coffee.  It had the same aroma and while the taste is not exciting, it is satisfying, mellow and easy on the stomach.  I went ahead and poured a second cup and waited to see how I would feel.  Gratefully, I can report that the level of irritation was less than normal.  It wasn't a huge difference, and I still need to be careful, but it is much less a problem than the regular stuff.

The one downside about the coffee is that when Folgers reduced the irritants they increased the price per ounce.  All other things being equal, the Simply Smooth is going to cost you more per cup than the classic roast.  But really, who can put a price on the satisfaction of having that second cup of morning java?
