Depression and anxiety are tough to conquer and what works for one person, may not work for another. Fluoxetine Prozac is a very popular antidepressant with anti anxiety qualities that works well for many. It has its drawbacks like all medications, however. Some reviewers experienced dizziness and drowsiness while taking this medication. A talk to your doctor will clear up whether this drug is the one for you. I was diagnosed w/severe chronic depressive disorder, severe chronic Generalized Anxiety Disorder, severe OCD, PTSD, and specific phobia disorders in 1992. I was on Paxil for 6 years when it stopped working for me. Between then and June 2007 I have run the gammet in medications. In June 2007 I had to go 'in-house' again and was prescribed Prozac and Clonidine. The Prozac is the best thing that has happened for me in years. It has reduced my OCD tremendiously! I am 32 years old & I have suffered from depression,OCD,& bi-polar disorder for over 15 years.I was taken off prozac when I was in high school due to news reports that prozac caused homicidal & suicidal thoughts.A girl in a town not to far from ours killed her entire family after starting prozac.My parents freaked out & that was it for me.15 years later I am back on prozac & have been for about 2 months.My OCD is alot better thanks to the prozac but I cant sleep.My dreams are so vivid that I'm waking up every 30 min. or so.Anyone that has ever hurt me haunts my dreams.People I dont…

I have taken Prozac or Fluoxetine, off and on for about ten years. Every time I quit taking it, I feel horrible and go into worse depression than I had to start with. For the first week I start taking it again (I have gone off and on it many many times) I have joint pain and flu symptoms. The first time I took Prozac, I thought I was having a really bad side effect, which I guess I was. But I kept going with it, at my doctors' requests. Usually I feel no better at all for many months. I started on this after the birth of my second daughter. I had postpartum psychosis, which is where you actually go crazy. It was depression and voices and insanity and HORRIBLE! I had no reality at that point, and this is what my doc put me on. Within days of starting it, I was so tired that I couldn't get out of bed. I would have terrible dreams whenever I tried to sleep, but would sleep for 18+ hours a day. I alternated between nauseaus and ravenous, so would eat like a pig, feel sick, then go to bed. I was given a prescription for prozac for what was mild to possibly moderate depression. After a couple of weeks of being on it I was getting more and more depressed until after only a few weeks I was crying a lot and had become borderline suicidal. That is the only time I have ever called the suicide hotline. The psychiatrist who prescribed it to me would not see me or change my prescription because I didn't have the money at the time for a full hour office visit payment. I tried to talk him into letting me see him for a shorter amount of time but he refused. He…

I have been taking Prozac for over two years now. I tried many other depression medicines before- at least five of them- and this one seemed to work the best for me. It really helps your mood, relieves anxiety, and helps you deal with stress. Prozac has a few side effects, however. The biggest side effect is that if you stop taking it to quickly or forget to take it for even a day you can get dizzy. It makes your sight seem weird and kind of blurry. Considering the fact that if you take it every day and go off of it slowly if necessary, I don't think the side effects are too severe. And the…

OCD sufferer
This drug is very mixed....hmmm. — First 2 weeks i got worse - sleeping 16 hours a day, nausea, slightly increased suicidal thoughts but after the first 2 weeks i had no problems. I even increased my dosage to 40mg and 60mg with no problems. However, this drug did lead to my dizziness and eventual collapse from posterial hypertension. But....I sufferred no withdrawl and this was the worst that happenned to me after 10 months on the drug and now id like to say "im all better" (although can never say cured). Give it a chance - it does geta bit too much negtive press in my opinion.…

I have tried many antidepressants over the years, some with terrible side effects..Prozac works well for me and has improved my quality of life. I used to just make it through the day and be glad the day was over and I could escape to sleep.Survival is not living.Now that I am taking Prozac, I feel good about myself and enjoy the small things in life. I am able to interact better with my husband and especially my grandchildren.Prozac has helped me to be around them without the extreme frustration and anxiety I used to have when with them for long periods of time.For the first time in a very…

Wow, I would suggest you try something else. I tried this for about three months. I had more trouble keeping my mind on things. I was impulsive. I seriously think it killed my sex drive. I would suggest that i took wellbutrin and i loved it but soon after my shrink made me stop and switched me to something else because it increases anxiety. Oh well, I've went off all SSRI's and plan to stay off. I am giving Xanax a shot but only once a month or when needed because that could open up a whole new can of…

I have used Prozac for many years, in fact I cannot remember when I first switched to Prozac. Since I have been on it, I have had only one panic attack. When this happened, my physician inceased my dosage and I have been panic free ever since. It has done so much for my depression, that I am nearly the person that I used to be. My daughter was put on this medication for anxiety and bipolar. It has worked great with her. The only side effect she has had is it makes her sleepy. But as far as working with the anxiety it has helped her alot. She takes it first thing in the morning. I have saw a difference in her. I also have talked to other people and it has helped some while others has had to be taking off of it because of suicide…
