This is a difficult review to write. Although we have come a long way in understanding mental disorders, I still feel uncomfortable talking about my anxiety disorder. Then again, not talking about it makes it seem shameful when it is not. A lot has been written about the drug Prozac, both good and bad....

I lost my second grandchild in a 2 year period and really had a difficult time dealing with it all. I finally opted to go on this medication Prozac as my anxiety was so severe I couldn't sleep, function, mind stop, etc. After 3 weeks of mild side effects I really had some relief and kinda felt somewhat... review »

I was diagnosed w/severe chronic depressive disorder, severe chronic Generalized Anxiety Disorder, severe OCD, PTSD, and specific phobia disorders in 1992. I was on Paxil for 6 years when it stopped working for me. Between then and June 2007 I have run the gammet in medications. In June 2007 I had to go 'in-house' again and was prescribed Prozac and Clonidine. The Prozac is the best thing that has happened for me in years. It has reduced my OCD tremendiously! It really helps w/my anxiety disorders with no perceptable side effects. Originally I was placed on 20mg a day and found myself becoming...

I am 32 years old & I have suffered from depression,OCD,& bi-polar disorder for over 15 years.I was taken off prozac when I was in high school due to news reports that prozac caused homicidal & suicidal thoughts.A girl in a town not to far from ours killed her entire family after starting prozac. My parents freaked out & that was it for me.15 years later I am back on prozac & have been for about 2 months. My OCD is alot better thanks to the prozac but I cant sleep. My dreams are so vivid that I'm waking up every 30 min. or so.Anyone that has ever hurt me haunts my dreams.People I dont think about... review »

I was diagnosed with depression and was prescribed this medication. The only thing it did was make everything worse. I had more difficulty sleeping and it caused some very strange side effects, which included muscle spasms and sensitivity to light. When I finally stopped taking it, I began to feel better. No more mood swings. I would never recommend this to anyone.

I have used Prozac for many years, in fact I cannot remember when I first switched to Prozac.  Since I have been on it, I have had only one panic attack.  When this happened, my physician inceased my dosage and I have been panic free ever since.  It has done so much for my depression, that I am nearly the person that I used to be. I have been on many different drugs, but this is the ONLY one that works for me. To say that I am satisfied is an understatement.  Again, thanks.

I have taken Prozac or Fluoxetine, off and on for about ten years. Every time I quit taking it, I feel horrible and go into worse depression than I had to start with. For the first week I start taking it again (I have gone off and on it many many times) I have joint pain and flu symptoms. The first time I took Prozac, I thought I was having a really bad side effect, which I guess I was. But I kept going with it, at my doctors' requests. Usually I feel no better at all for many months. In fact, this last time I started it again (last December) After about 8 days I felt much worse depression...

I started on this after the birth of my second daughter. I had postpartum psychosis, which is where you actually go crazy. It was depression and voices and insanity and HORRIBLE! I had no reality at that point, and this is what my doc put me on. Within days of starting it, I was so tired that I couldn't get out of bed. I would have terrible dreams whenever I tried to sleep, but would sleep for 18+ hours a day. I alternated between nauseaus and ravenous, so would eat like a pig, feel sick, then go to bed. I gained 20 pounds in a month, and became terrible person as well. I had no conscience, felt... review »

This drug is very mixed....hmmm.

First 2 weeks i got worse - sleeping 16 hours a day, nausea, slightly increased suicidal thoughts but after the first 2 weeks i had no problems. I even increased my dosage to 40mg and 60mg with no problems. However, this drug did lead to my dizziness and eventual collapse from posterial hypertension. But....I sufferred no withdrawl and this was the worst that happenned to me after 10 months on the drug and now id like to say "im all better" (although can never say cured). Give it a chance - it does geta bit too much negtive press in my opinion. These are very "individual"...

I have tried many antidepressants over the years, some with terrible side effects..Prozac works well for me and has improved my quality of life. I used to just make it through the day and be glad the day was over and I could escape to sleep.Survival is not living. Now that I am taking Prozac, I feel good about myself and enjoy the small things in life. I am able to interact better with my husband and especially my grandchildren.Prozac has helped me to be around them without the extreme frustration and anxiety I used to have when with them for long periods of time. For the first time in a very long...

Fluoxetine is the generic form of Prozac but there is nothing generic about the side effects. This antidepressant was given to me by my doctor in a 20mg form of one pill once a day and I was on it for about about a month.

I thought I was okay because I could feel myself floating out side of my body. I would wake up to be tired, constantly thinking about death. Then my babies lost my pill bottle for about a week thats when all hell hit the fan literally. Worst then waking up to be tired was waking up to die. All I thought about was death: walking down the stairs I am going to fall and break...

I am currently a big fan of Prozac, and am taking 20mg a day of the generic called Fluoxetine. I was diagnosed with General Anxiety disorder in October of 2007, and had been having anxiety attacks with symptoms of feeling anxious, tightness of the chest, overall uneasy feeling, nausea, inability to cope with the situation, etc. Originally I was prescribed given Xanax by a GI doctor, and then Paxil by my general physician, and it worked well for me for about 6 months. Unfortunately I started to have uncomfortable side effects, especially weight gain, so I requested my doctor prescribe me a different...

My mother died in 2005.  I was very depressed afterwards and really didn't feel like doing much of anything.  It took me a long time to get the courage up to go to the doctor and talk to him about it.  He suggested putting me on a low dosage of Prozac (fluoxetine).  It completely changed my life.  I take it once a day, just 20 milligrams.  I take it along with 100 milligrams of Wellbutrin (bupropion).  It is a lifesaver for me.  My depression has gone away.  I am less anxious and upset at the "small things" in life.  I can actually get up and moving every morning and enjoy doing things...
